  1. It just seem impossible to find a range extender, I have been enquiring about it since I bought my bike in August. Every time I ask its not available and every time the price is higher. Started at R25 000, yesterday I was told its now R35 000 but still no indication when it will be available. Range extender is 500w, a second battery at 625w A second battery will give better range and is cheaper but very inconvenient and also not available.
  2. Wow, thanks for this amazing reply Chris! I'm now convinced not to do it with just one battery, the next decision is now do I go for an extra battery at R20k or the range booster at R30k a lot of extra money but the extender is mounted on the bike so no need to carry that weight in a backpack or switch batteries. With the range extender it self-balance the load and alternate between the two batteries without draining one which should increase battery life. Having someone waiting next to the route with the second battery will be very nice but I'm concerned about the logistics with lots of closed roads, will be an issue with other events too .....
  3. Thanks, afaik there was a rule on just one battery years ago but its not applicable anymore. I have done the race on a road bike a few times, but that was a 7kg bike and the last one was 5 years ago. My ebike is 24kg's so its a huge difference once the battery is flat. If the battery last till after Suikerbossie its fine but I do not want to paddel a 24kg bike with no assistance up Suikerbossie. That's why I want to talk with people with experience. I recon if one does about 30kms along the way with no assistance and use Eco mode mostly with Tour mode just on the steep inclines I should be ok. Weight including the bike is 150kg and I have a 625w battery. The cost of a range extender at R30k is difficult to justify since I will not use it more than once a year when I do the Capetown Tour.
  4. Hi Guys, I would like to chat to people who have done the tour on an ebike before. Do you take an extra battery or do you manage just one to make the distance?
  5. You make a valid point, the price only hurt for a month or so, then you forget about it. Did you import or buy local?
  6. Has anyone tried this: https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/bosch-powertube-horizontal-down-tube-battery/139041960/p?utm_source=google_products&utm_medium=merchant&id_producte=16607831&country=za&gclid=CjwKCAiAzKqdBhAnEiwAePEjkhBpn_Q1bCRS1bNlBJ5VsPGHjzl53YxqBUNaE95XAlTXpy491u9OvRoC95EQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  7. Thanks for the replies, I was told a spare battery (625w) is around R20 000 and a range extender is R30 000. Does anyone have a cheaper option? I will use it just once a year for the Argus so its a bit expensive to justify.
  8. Hi, thanks for the reply. Please tell me where I find that easy - I've been trying to find a second battery for months with no success.
  9. Hi everyone Can anyone please tell me where I can buy an extra battery or battery extender for a Scott eRide (Bosch)? Thanks Johan
  10. Thanks for your reply, I was also interested in C2C but I was told e-bikes is not allowed?
  11. The race distance is more than more than the range of an e-bike even if I use minimum assistance.
  12. Fun and an amazing experience, I have done four on a road bike, and want to do many more.
  13. MANY ebikers attempt the entire route on a single battery. Saw at least two that ran out of battery with 10 to 15 km to go .... That's exactly what I want to avoid, I also calculated that is is possible to do on one battery but I do not want to run out just before Chappies! Thanks for the replies I read somewhere that its not allowed to carry a second battery but also saw nothing in the rules. Best options would be a friend next to the road but you do not want to miss him.
  14. Hi all I'm new to e-bikes, is there a specific e-bike forum? I have done a few Cape Town Cycle Tours but want to do it on an e-bike next year, is second batteries allowed?
