  1. Ai...via the PPA newsletter this morning... Anyone know/heard about this? CYCLE LANE WARNING Recent attacks along the cycle lanes close to Cape Town have once again highlighted the vulnerability of cyclists who use this form of transport. The City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement section has advised that they are attempting their best to bring these perpetrators to book but with the demands of extended patrol routes, expanding bus services, checking on fare evasion and crime prevention over a large geographical area, can be challenging at times. Their recommendation is for cyclists to try and travel in groups of two or more along the stretch of road between Paarden Island and Woodstock due its isolation, especially in the early morning hours and late afternoon. They have patrols in the area but they do get called away to attend to other problems that occur. An operation to crack down on crime in this area last week resulted in the arrest of 15 people for all sorts of crime and they have promised to do more sporadic operations. In the meantime, please heed the warning and be on the lookout. If you observe any suspicious behaviour or need to report an emergency, please call the 24/7 number 021 4807700.
  2. Officially back on tubeless
  3. Yeah, I am first returning the ones I bought yesterday and then I'm going tubeless.
  4. Whahahahahahaha!!!! Funny you should say that, every night when I got home and opened my garage door, I couldn't look my bike in the eyes because it looked so weird...
  5. I'm sorry to rant, I'm usually not this full of crap...but...seeing that this is the second time I thought I'd shoot this out there to see what others' experience have been like. I rode the Argus with my MTB on slicks with Dr Sludge tubes. Last week when I was ready to put my knobblies back on I could deflate one of my tubes as the sludge had clogged the valve. After spending about 20 mins of cursing and fighting I managed to get the air out. Long story short - now I can't inflate the tube as there isn't enough space for the air to go through. This is the second time I have had this problem and thought I'd share my experience. I stored my bike in such a way that the valves were at the top so that the sludge sits at the bottom. Today I couldn't wait anymore and stopped by a shop to pick up tubes, call me a sucker as I walked out with Dr Sludge again...only this time when I opened the packet the sludge had leaked out leaving a rock solid crusted valve that can't move... I'm so disappointed as one tube costs R165!!! I think I'm just going to go back to tubeless...Stans!
  6. I wouldn't mind, but can't make any promises as I first need to ride off some of my christmas skin seeing that I'll be doing the Argus soon.
  7. Nice one! Enjoy! Maybe I'll see you out there when you whoosh past me as I usually leave at around 17:00.
  8. Still riding everyday?
  9. *BUMP Which way do you go: Through docks or under the bridge?
  10. I'd be keen - can I bring my MTB? Let me know if anything develops.
  11. Does anyone know where I can buy reflectors for my wheels? I've been to three major cycle shops and they say they don't stock it anymore. Thanks!
  12. Sorry! BIG apologies on my side I was delayed at work by a meeting that over run. I managed to leave the offices only at 17h30 and then discovered the statue outside my building is not the Jan Van Riebeeck one How often do you ride, maybe we should exchange phone numbers for next time - I ride once a week. Will PM my number to you.
  13. OK awesome, same here heading to SD. See you out there.
  14. My office is close by where I will be leaving - I'll watch out for you. Which way do you ride out?
  15. Anyone riding out today at 17:00? I am, let me know. I'm keen on cycling together with someone, fairly beginner level. I ride once a week let me know please.
  16. I've also recently started this commute, which is awesome. I've ridden along the path, but I try to catch up or wait for other cyclists so that I'm not on my own. Anyone else that can share some of their recent experience of riding along the path? -or- Is it a better option to go through the docks or straight onto N1? Thanks! P.S. I'm always keen on riding along with others, so if you also tend to ride alone let me know and we can ride together. I cycle this route once a week - I am a beginner though, takes me 45min - 59min to do that commute.
  17. Ah ok, thanks. I'll have a look around to see what's happening.
  18. I am already in a group for the Argus as I am riding for WWF I was refering to Die Burger
  19. Thanks a lot, that gives me a lot of insight into what I am going to do. Are there any other beginners on here keen to ride in a group in this event?
  20. I haven't done a race event yet as I'm still a newb, so I have a few questions I hope you guys can help with. I'm doing my first race event - the one in march where we ride through the western cape :-) Do you think Die Burger is a good practice run, maybe trying the 44km or rather the 97km. The furthest I've gone is 55kms so far. Also, I know there will be no road closures, but will there be next to the road support? P.S. I will be doing it on a mtb with slicks.
  21. I'm thinking about the same thing. @Alouette - I am riding the Argus for my first time next year. For a newb would you say a mtb will work? Alternatively I am also looking for a road bike, but from what you are saying it sounds like a mtb will help a newb out?

    Argus 2014

This is going to be the first time I will be riding the Argus, so obvious anxiety and excitement at the same time. I am planning to ride it with my Mountain Bike using slicks of course, but wanted to find out what your thoughts are on this or if you've done it on a mtb before? Thanks!
