  2. I still love my 26er Camber. In my experience you struggle with tyres, very limited choice so buy a few when you find your preferred brand. All other parts are freely available. Not too sure about 26er-specific parts from the manufacturers like frame spares though
  3. Oh well...not keen on sitting with a fork and being stuck without spares. Regarding the bottomless tokens, are these only available for the more recent model Reba? Not a big fan of 'maak 'n plan' solutions that will just give me problems later on.
  4. So, I have decided to give my trusty 26er a new lease on life and to do a few upgrades. I would get a "26" tatoo if that wasn't frowned upon???? CWC has the Formula 33 on sale for R3k, and I cant find much on the interwebs about this fork. Does anybody have any experience with their product that could make my decision more informed? Just some background: looking to replace the dual air Reba on my Camber 26er. I have never been able to find that sweet spot on the Reba where its compliant but not bottoming out at low pressures. Hoping a change of fork may solve this. I ride mostly trail/XC type stuff, no big jumps or anything. Also, would like to keep the travel at 120mm. Thanx

  6. Not trying to derail the OPs original topic, but here goes. The whole 'plus wheelsize' scene has caught my interest, and I have been toying with the idea of building myself a long travel steel hardtail that can accommodate 27.5 plus tyres as a play bike. What are the frame options out there that can work? Maybe a few options that can be sourced with reasonable ease in SA?

OK thanx....do the organisers identify all the relevant checkpoints that are rally-points with the support drivers before the briefing on the morning of the start, or does it become a matter of making quick decisions on the morning? I am assuming all these point would be outside of the reserve section of the race... It does feel as though there is a bit of an information vacuum from the organisers????not meant as an insult or to slate the organiser, they have obviously been running the race quite successfully for a long time. But it is a looooong ride and alot of planning has to go into it from the riders perspective, after all, none of us want to pitch up ill-prepared. Especially for a newbie like myself. I havent even received any sort of official correspondence confirming my entry...money paid yada yada...then I have to arrange for leave, spouse has to make arrangements at work, acc has to be booked and paid for. Its always nice just to get some feedback to make it official and all
  10. Hi As per the title I am looking for any and all available advice regarding the logistics of doing my first TransBaviaans. Specifically, I have arranged a support driver but I'm really not sure what their role is...do they just have to attend the breefing pre-race and meet you at the end, or are their designated check points where they can meet up with you with equipment/spares/food. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I have searced and scoured the website but there's not much I could find in this regard. Also, any advice on what equipment (besides the prerequisite safety stuff listed on the website)? Obviously, a good system for lighting, basic tools and spares for running repairs if needed (do I have to carry all these on me at all times, or can they be left at strategic point with the SD). Thanx in advance for all advice...its a big distance as a first-timer and dont want to botch the smaller stuff and make it a negative experience????

  12. Do know if my comments will be of any help but I had a look at the Spez 2FO recently and was quite chuffed at how they were put together, feel really well made. I also had a look at the 2FO Clip which is basically the flat that can accommodate SPD cleats and the forecoot/midfoot area is quite alot stiffer than the plain flat shoe. Cant quite wrap my head around why I would buy flats that have cleats...fail to really see the potential benefits of this, only a compromised shoe that tries to fulfill two roles...but thats just my opinion. Sorry that I cant shed any light on which is best or worst but I am actually shopping around for my first pair of flats too????
  13. There are some routes behind the casino that can be seen as you drive the N1 past Worcester, haven't ridden them yet but have spoken to the manager at the casino about access. No permits etc needed, you can access the trails on the casino premises. They arent marked AFAIK. We use to live on a farm on that Stetyns Kloof road and use to see alot of people cycling up to the dam along that route. The road is a private road past the Dwarsberg Trout reserve that may require you to get permission from the farmer to keep everything civil. Not the most exciting riding but a nice view of the dam if you go up onto the dam wall. There was one gate on that road but a pedestrial gate is there to bypass it as far as i can remember Another option would be to ride out towards Robertson on tar and turn off onto gravel at the Nuy valley wine route, there is a gravel district route that runs past a place called Saggy Stone Pub. Awesome little place that makes great food and their own beer...might be a long ride home on a full stomach though

  15. No major increase in intensity of my riding lately. Have been wondering if I should swop over to flat pedals as the twisting of the leg to uncleat really doesnt strike me as a natural motion and in all likelihood it can only do my riding some good. I have to admit that the left knee if far far worse than the right...possibly compensating with the opposite leg for the last few weeks and now the right is also bothering me. Have resigned myself to putting the bike in the shed for a few weeks though to heal up and sort everything out before making the problem worse. Have also instructed the lady in my life that according to expert advice I may not move around too much and as such beer will have to be brought to me in future ???? but that will never work How are the crankbrother cleats different to the SPDs? Have never used them before

  18. Hi Hubbers I am wondering if anybody else has had this problem, and whether you have any suggestions on how to remedy it. Lately my knees have been bothering me on rides, particularly on the lateral sides where the hamstring attaches to the lower leg, on both sides but worse on the left. Have always had a niggley knee while running but never on the bike before. And never this bad. It started about three weeks ago and I didnt change anything on the bike, seat height and fore/aft adjustment is unchanged. So I really dont know how to approach it... Getting to the point now where it starts about 5k into a ride and persists, making riding quite unpleasant. Had to finish the last 30-odd k's of sabie day 2 with it which was tough. Now, do i give my knees some time off for a few weeks and stay off the bike? Or do i start fiddling with the bike setup? (Cant see that to be the problem as nothing has changed in that regard when the pain started) Any advice would help at this point...I dont really want to stay off the bike though
  19. This was my first stage race, and I must admit that the prologue beat the hell out of me...but I finished and now I am hooked and planning to enter my next event! The bike however took some shots with all that mud...a bit expensive, but worth it. Had to finish the final climb on Day 2 with what sounded like small rocks in the bottom bracket...almost brought me to tears
