  1. Hope everyone chilled in the sun like these guys over the weekend. Although that midday sun makes for crummy pictures which may bring down the property values of this thread.
  2. Sorry, whats Millers doing in a beer poll ? Work your magic and make that stuff dissapear back to the US.
  3. One mean lean lettuce eating machine
  4. At first I thought no, its unrelated to the rule of thirds, then maybe, on second or third thoughts, it is a Toyota Corrollary of the rule.
  5. Its cos you've used a lot of "pro" composition tips in the pic. I.e. nice focal point for the eyes (the glass), good strong diagonal lines and a blurred background so as not to detract from the focus. I can go on and on... Photo's are both art and science at the same time. And a lot of that science is psychology, i.e. what looks better to the average human. And then strange things start to emerge. I.e. for this pic with a glass, one glass is great. A pair of them will not look as good, a group of three looks great again. The eye is more attracted / pleased with odd numbers - why I don't know.
  6. WHAT, this is Mrs Dangle? I think she needs to be treated to a spa day
  7. And a smile from this little face will warm most peoples hearts..
  8. Going back to the nostalgia theme,
  9. Many times. Best approach for me is to get an order value of R3000+, then use Parcelforce free shipping. (But check out CWC as well) Took CRC a week for them to build & ship my custom wheels. CRC Customer query guy only answers e-mails when he feels like it though, so if you realise you have made a mistake on your order and its significant - PHONE them.
  10. Dangle, if you printed out that steam train on large format canvas, put your sig in the corner - pure art that any gallery should take. I think I'll go away and sulkreflect on future thread contributions for a bit now.
  11. Tropical island colours (scuse the softness, scans of film)
  12. If you feel crummy today, wait till Thursday, my phone is predicting a max of 7 degrees, a min of -2. Chilly to say the least.
  13. A pic to remind us that spring will be here eventually:
  14. aaah, that helps, a nice fast lens. Something I don't yet have in my arsenal. What kind of shutter speed were you getting with that combo, & were you using the same set-up with the sat dish pics? If so, maybe I must move that acquisition up my priority list, who needs a bike stand anyway.
  15. @Dangle I too have wasted many hours on those damn little bees, maybe a canon 7D with 6 fps will help in my next life to get the ideal take-off / landing shot. That last shot under ambient conditions is amazing, seeing as shutter speed is governed by action, you don't have much to play with. ISO ??
  16. NZ fjords are stunning, but quite limited in terms of tourism access. I gather if you like hiking, esp in the cold and wet, the hike over the mountains into Milford Sound is awesome. Alaska fjords have glaciers, and are far more accessible, it does mean you have to share it with old overweight americans. Because Alaska is at the tail end of a very long supply chain from the rest of the states, it is very expensive. But, on the plus side, Anchorage is full of brilliant micro-brewers, and the fresh fish (halibut, salmon & king crab -star of Deadliest Catch)is the best I have ever had. Just make sure you fly on a bush plane, and spend some time in the interior to see the real Alaska. Being an engineer that also means looking at the oil pipeline....
  17. Alaska happy snaps - for Slowbee
  18. Close, those are my New Zealand lakes & fjord pics. Will post some of my Alaskan cruise pics tomorrow to motivate you to go.... I can highly reccommend going to Alaska, just do it sooner than later, cos when all the glaciers are gone it won't be the same.
  19. Nautical theme for my spam content, Noddy badges to anyone who gets all four locations right. Answers on postcards to....
  20. Swartkops - pity I missed it. However, I see your Mustang and raise you two Sea Furies from Reno (apologies for the crummy scan from film).
  21. HDR also gets mentioned in Super_Mil's graph about 10 pages back about where you fall as a photographer in terms of abilities both real and perceived. I am clueless about photo-shopping a single image, no ways am I ready to do multiple overlays yet.
  22. So its for a bunch of DIRC's. In a bad visual pun, here are some dircs of my own (you have to imagine the Inspector Cleuseu Pink Panther accent).
  23. @Dangle: I have exactly the same potato bush shot in my collection. Perhaps you also took your's the day you got a new camaera and were hunting in the garden for photo-ops? Some different flower pics: Agapanthus, unknown daisy type floating in mid-air, and raindrops on aloe... The aggies are terrible to capture as you need such a big depth of field to get their 3-D effect, but you still want a blurry background; any tips from out there ?
  24. Yeah, I gather that second hand is the best way to get a collection of the esoteric lenses. Ta, it does also takes a lot of trust to lie underneath and present your throat to 42kg's of German Shepherd... Pics for today: Eyes, well one is a tree knothole for Dangle.
  25. Oh well, my sizes were a stuff up, don't know abou you lot out there, but my pics have given my screen a siezure, will try & edit.....
