  1. Lekker, thanks Abe. XC with 120mm sounds like a winner!
  2. Yes, a detour through the park is a must! Ridden it a few times, nice and wide shoulder, ride with a bright flashing rear light and drivers are mostly courteous. Vehicles come past pretty fast but you get used to it. Go on a day with a strong SE, it's a blast!
  3. Apologies if this thread has been posted but couldn't find in a search. Good chance I'll be riding my first Epic next year and not allowed to ride my gravel bike 😅 So I've been wondering what the general consensus is between a Trail or XC setup. XC is faster / Trail more plush on the technical things. Goals won't be to win (obvs) but still race hard, rode Origin of Trails last year on a Trail focused bike and felt a bit sluggish on the gravel road sections. Is XC setup better for wanting to be on the sharper end, or does Trail comfortability come into play the deeper you go into the race? Gracias 👋
  4. Wow 🤩 that’s a proper ride mate!!
  5. Rooiberg Lodge is definitely worth the stop, food was excellent and watching the buck at the watering hole at sunset was pretty rad!
  6. Grabouw is definitely my preferred starting and ending point as well! Cuts out A LOT of tar and you can ride the Rusty Gate Pass which is spectacular!
  7. You can rent a spot tracker from https://www.sat4rent.co.za/rent.htm I would defo recommend taking one if you going solo. as mentioned I did a write up with images of my solo ride. Check Matts reply for the links ????

  14. Rad, thanks Nick! Been riding fixed gear on the road for a few years so I am used to various cadence riding. I'll start with the 32 x 18 and go from there. The other side of the hub as a 14t fixed cog for the flats
