  1. Just a quick one guys. I'm about to order my tyres and was wondering on widths for 29" wheels. Coming from a 26" bike this will be my first 29er so I was wondering what tyre width is best. I ride with 2.1 Rocket Rons on my 26", would 2.1 be fine on the 29" wheel or should I go up to 2.25 or even 2.25 front and 2.1 rear? I ride mostly hard pack, fireroads, some loose sand and some loose rocky trails. I know this will probably be a subjective view but our trails are similar to the stuff you guys ride well except some of that slippery sticky mud in Natal lol.
  2. Hmmm I wonder if they are going to be 2014 model retail versions or only available as OEM.
  3. Yeah I'm looking at where I can shed a little more in the cockpit. The challenge is not to allow costs to sky rocket.
  4. Are those black stancions custom specific for Pyga? It's it anodized or some other finish? I've got a black revelation but normal sanctions which I had to search quite a bit for as all the after market ones are white. An all black fork will look stunning on the Pyga.
  5. No, I didn't know that the SLX is lighter. I'll check that out. Is it the black finish on the crank arms that doesn't wear well with the XT? Does it rub off or just scuff? Thanks for the heads up any way.
  6. That's pretty much what I heard from others. I'd like to have the XTs but this build is already costing more than I really wanted to spend so I'd rather save the difference and put it into the wheelset or something. Perhaps the brakes weren't bedded in properly or something. I rented a brand new bike on a holday that the shop had just finished building. The SLX brakes on that were shocking until I got them properly bedded in. Yep appropriate adaptors have been noted and will be passed onto the wheel builder. The rims will be Arch EX not the flows. Mostly the riding here is done on hard pack so real nobby tyres not really necessary except maybe in the winter. I may also consider the Maxxi IKONs. The cables come with the shifters so will be Shimano. Thanks for the tip on the bottle cage.
  7. My reasoning for the SLX brakes was that there is very minimal weight saving with the XT for a 40% price increase. The SLX have the Icetech too I believe but I'll have another look at that. I haven't come across thos ESI grip but will check them out. Thanks ryan. On second thoughts, I think I'll go for a longer (740mm or so) bar so I have the option of cutting it back to the most suitable length.
  8. I'd appreciate if you guys could look through my parts to build up the OneTen29 before I place my orders in case I've missed something or spec'ed it incorrectly. What bar widths are you guys mostly riding with? Is 700mm a little narrow for a 29er? Same with the stem length, I'm 6'2" and will have a size L frame. Any longer than 90mm would seem too long for this type of bike? Also, with the wide bars it may be better to go for a shorter stem (maybe 70-80mm) to speed up the steering a little. What do you guys think?
  9. I'm hoping to come down to SA to try the Joberg2C or Cape Epic in 2015. I guess the Cape Epic is much more intense, well it seems it on youtube lol. Just need to get some serious training in oh and get my Pyga built
  10. Thanks. Is that for a large frame? So with mine being similar except with Arch EX rims on hope hubs it should expect it to come in below 13Kg.
  11. And for comparison http://cdn1.coresites.mpora.com/bikemagic_new/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/BWP_3052-620x412.jpg
  12. When you look at their ALu frame one it looks even more like a Pyga. Even the seatpost gusset looks like it took inspiration from Pyga http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2013/05/29/1369847513220-1s65azv5qcy4b-670-70.jpg
  13. Nice. I hope they did well and completed the events without issues.
  14. Anyone know of any Pygas that participated in any stage races Sani2C, Joburg2C or Cape Epic etc.? Just wondering how they performed since the OneTen29 is marketed as being at home in any XC stage race.
  15. Yep I guess the bathroom scales will not be that accurate but should be within 0.5kg I would say. You're right, losing some gut is mostly overlooked as a way to drop the weight and as you say is far cheaper.
  16. Nice. I love that colour. Are you going to cut your fork steerer down eventually or leave all the spacers there?
  17. Why not go for the onetwenty 650b? You can then still use all your parts. If you're as small as you say I would think any 29er is not going to be an ideal fit.
  18. I notice that no acid green bikes have been posted. Haven't many been delivered yet or is up take slow after the initial excitement after launch?
  19. wow. Why so heavy? The reverb will add a bit but nothing else there implies the weight you're getting.
  20. I just found on Pyga's facebook page there is a photo of a oneten29 with full XT and arch wheels weighing in at 12.5kgs for an XL so my L should at least come in at a similar if not slightly lower weight. Anyone know that bike?
  21. Percyzn and Ryanpmb, what do your bikes weigh and what size frames are you riding?
  22. Yeah, I've seen that thread but it seems to have gone quiet as no posts since January. I was hoping that there would be more Pyga owners out there now who could post their builds and specs, but judging from the lack of response either there aren't many more Pyga riders out there or they're too bust riding to read the forum. I noticed that some of my bookmarked links to posts here are no longer available. I assume the crash you're talking about is related to that.
  23. Hi from Portugal. I've come here as there are very few Pygas in Europe at the moment so I'm hoping there is a larger pool of knowledge here to get advice from. I'd would like to pick some of you Pyga owners' brains and compare some of your builds. I'm getting a large OneTen29 frame and would like to build a sub 12.5Kg bike but at the same time keep costs sensible. My plan was to go full XT drivetrain with SLX brakes, Rockshox Revelation Forks (20mm axle) and Truvativ T30 cockpit. I'm still undecided on wheels but was thnking of ArchEX on Hope Pro II Evo hubs (or similar) or Pacenti TL28 Rims on the Hopes. I believe both the Arch and Pacenti build to around 1900g for the wheelset. Tires will either be Rocket Rons or Ikons. Do you think with the above spec I'd be below 12.5Kg? What specs are you guys running and what sort of weights are your bikes coming in at?
