  1. My wife and I got horribly lost on the marathon route after about 35km. I thought we were in trouble but that was quickly confirmed when Nico Bell came speeding up behind us. Starting in F Batch I thought we were doing well but not that well. We got to the Rosemary hill dirt road and rode all the way back to the turnoff but ended up doing the same "wrong loop". Eventually found the 45 km route and headed to the finish. In total 62km of riding in 3hrs10min. Disappointed in myself but at least got to spend some time on the bike.
  2. Tool-up Cycles at Grey Owl Centre just off the N1 Old Joahnnesburg Road! Very thorough and always on the phone before replacing anything.
  3. Depending what I have in the house but either Flomist or Avamys in the morning and then a homemade saline and Bicarbonate soda rinse in the evening.
  4. Brilliant! Great command of the English language! "Are you tank? no, Are you a car? no; You a little bicycle!!!"
  5. That sucks! He must be devastated not being able to cross the line in Paris. Always next year and most probably a far stronger and smarter rider in next year's tour.
  6. I think the British Open golf commentary could do with a change before the TDF!

    Sani2c 2015

Once again The Hub proves influential. Those changes sound spot on.
  8. Best thing about this race for me is its a nice 6km warm up ride to the start; then race; then a couple beers and roll back down the hill home.
  9. If I read the flyer correctly, the 45km only starts at 9am. Hopefully a little warmer by that time.
  10. I changed from a 110mm stem to a 60mm stem the week before Sani2c this year. Probably not the best timing but it made a noticeable difference. I always felt like I was reaching a bit so for the first time I felt comfortable in my "cockpit" on the bike. Apart from the comfort aspect for me, I found the bike to be much easier to handle on single track and switchbacks. It was far easier for me to maintain control of the handlebar and get my back side off the back of the saddle and nice and low. Didn't have a single fall at Sani and never really came close to losing control at all.

    sani2c Feedback

Sani2C Adventure (Mine and my wife's first time) The Good The route was incredible. Better than I expected. Food in general. At waterpoints and at the race villages. Including the USN products available everywhere was a great touch. Jolivet mens showers and dining hall. Supergroup logistics worked without a hassle (Won't mention the actual riders). The "feel good feeling" that this race gives so much back to the community. The Bad Men's showers at Mackenzie and women's showers at Jolivet. The quality and sizes of the clothing. Finish at Scottburgh. A 30min wait to cross the lagoon and then just an anticlimax from parking issues, no showers, beer tent of sorts would be great. Starting times sms'd and mentioned in the evenings were different. I rode for SuperGroup but my wife and I stuck to our starting batches. Nothing more demoralising than being passed by 200 riders and then that feeling of holding faster riders back. Day 1 we started in H batch and passed the first lot of D batch Supergroupers shortly after waterpoint 1.
  12. Wife and I down with flu after Sani2c. Please PM me if you looking for 2 marathon entries. So bleak at the moment but this is one race you have to be 100% healthy to do.

In H for the adventure but probably get bumped up to G with the Supergroup crowd.

    Sani2c 2015

Only got an entry for the adventure last week. Needless to say "taper" period has turned into an "exam cramming" session of note.
  16. I've had the system installed for over 3 weeks now. Did Clarens Marathon in that period and the system is still secure. That being said, I have tightened it extremely tight and before every ride I have given it a twist to make sure it hasn't come loose.
  17. Bike owner, insurance company and manufacturer is to blame for allowing this to happen. The insurance company and manufacturer should have better controls in place and the simple one would be to take possession of the broken frame in return for paying out on the warranty or insurance claim. That way, bike owner can only claim from one party. Also insurance should request a letter from manufacturer stating that warranty claim was either granted or denied.
  18. I'm sure if you go to Clarens Extreme you can purchase a day pass to ride the trails that formed part of the last 10km's. The Fire Department have been heavily involved in building those trails in their spare time and I'm sure the town is trying to maximize its appeal as a cycling destination. Would be a shame to build those trails to use only 1 day a year.
  19. Had a great time at Clarens! Weather was far better than I thought it would be. Wife and I did the marathon on Saturday and then the 20km with my in-laws on Sunday. I really underestimated the marathon. First 50km's went by quickly and easily. Last 25km's I cramped terribly.
  20. USN "own" the waterpoints. Definitely no chance of any hot chocolate unless they've recently launched a USN hot chocolate weigh protein powder.
  21. Garmin HRM been giving hassles for the last 2 months. Would work for half the ride then stop. Eventually gave up on it and left at home on rides. Last week decided to clean the sensor after reading this thread and applied some Q20 to the metal points for good measure. Worked absolutely fine on both rides this weekend.
  22. Parked at Heia last week Friday. Did the red then yellow route. Then headed out the gate onto the Cradle Loop. Found the single track on the right and side after a boring 15 minutes of road riding. Followed the single track around the loop and it ended 4km before Heia. Back into Heia and did the blue loop. Was a great ride. 75 km with about 1,100m climbing.
  23. If it's fungal then Lamisil and a zinc oxide ointment is your best bet.
  24. Wife and I will be back again this year for the 45km.
  25. Last year was my first one and I became the Mayor of Negative town when that happened. At least I'll be mentally prepared for that this year.
