  1. HI Arrie, just for interest sake, why are you selling?
  2. Hi All, I would love to set my bakkie up with a Thule Proride setup above the loading bin, with the tonneau cover in place.. Any suggestions as to what the best route would be? Some examples would be great.. Thanks in advance!
  3. None of the roads are really safe, specially when road cycling alone. I suggest joining a bunch ride in your area, they are most likely to go out that way or another. This is the best way to find routes and safety in numbers is a better option. Plus, if you get a mechanical out on your ride, a backup car can help
  4. Once we've moved in and all the other necessities are in place I would prob find the wall space to hang the bikes indoors..but this place is 1.5 bedrooms small, it gets a bit cluttered. But canvas covers and bolted outside could work http://www.asgardsss.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/m/e/metal_shed_bike_storage_2.jpg This would be fantastic! But only in the UK and expensive!
  5. Anyone on Hubland have any experience and advice on securely storing bikes outdoors? Moving into a new place with limited indoor space and no garage, but a small garden. Was thinking some sort of lockable, weather resistant container, big enough for 2 bikes, but not garden shed big.. Anyone tried or done this? There are some examples on the web, but pricey is the general trend.. Thanks in advance!
  6. Any idea at what time the open race will be today?
  7. Thanks for the info and suggestions
  8. Do you guys find larger intervals between drivetrain maintenance with 1x compared to 2x?
  9. Thanks for the detail ChrisF! So to summarize, a 1x11 system offers smaller gaps between gears and has the climbing side covered but still falls short at top end speed, even with a 34 chainring? Therefor, although I am more suited to climbing than power on the flats (so maybe a 34 chainring..), a 2x10 system would benefit me more when competing against guys riding 29inch bikes while I'm on my 27.5".
  10. Some gear maintenance has to be done..currently have a 2x10 shimano system on a 650b hardtail, mainly do marathon races (trailseeker, ashburton etc) and train hilly routes offroad and on tar (Wolwespruit, Waterkloof area). Should I change to a 1x10 system, 32/34 chainring, 46 cassette or keep what I have? My feeling is leaning towards sticking to the 2x system which I know works but I do notice that the 3 largest cogs on the cassette are hardly used..therefore maybe the 1x. Im not sure about the wheelsize debate and how it affects gear ratios and gear systems and keeping up on the flats with guys on 29inch bikes? Changing wheelsize is not an option for me at the moment. Any advice from guys riding 650b mtb, doing the same kind of races etc would be appreciated!
  11. You don't realise it, but when you were a school kid, you most probably were way more active than you are now. Just doing kid stuff eg running around, playing ball etc. You had less stress. Hormone balances were different, leaning to faster metabolism than now. Bread back in the day was of better quality than now as well (more grainy..). The other issue is the fact that we do not realise the amount of sugar we consume on a day to day bases. Just about everything we eat contains more sugar than you would realise. Combined with easy carbs like bread, the effect is exacerbated. Bread has the additional effect of acidifying the blood due to the fast carbs. This has a whole other range of effects on the body.. The guys riding those long distances will rather eat solid foods than gels because too many gels over a long period of time wreaks havoc on the stomach. The same reason for potatoes etc at the water points at long marathon races and stage races. My suggestion, if you want to eat bread, rather go for rye breads etc. See what effect that has on your health etc. You will find you stay fuller for longer, and the low GI energy release is beneficial for long rides etc.
  12. Estimated vertical ascent for the marathon? I've checked the online booklet, they repeated the ultra marathon's vertical ascent on the marathon profile page..
  13. I reckon just the existence of Africa's first UCI world tour cycling team is inspiring enough! And the white kit is easy to spot in the bunch, not to mention the cool green hand logo thing on the back! Imagine that from the helicopter in the Tour!
  14. What is the situation at Klapperkop these days like? Safe to ride, any trouble lately?
  15. How is the Spruit in terms of cycling safety these days? Haven't ridden the Spruit in a while, keen to do so again. Any dangerous incidents or encounters recently?
