  1. Saw this little guy at Bloemendal this week. Great to see the awareness of riders and effort taken to gently nudge him off to the side !
  2. In my experience Shimano has never let me down. I run a 1x11 XT shifter + derailleur on a SunRace cassette. I find the SunRace to be better comparable to the Shimano Cassettes. On the front I have a Sram (Sram dub BB) . Most people might frown upon this setup but this made a lot of sense to me from a simplicity & affordability point. Shifting is really smooth and seem to last well with regular cleaning and lubing between rides. The Shimano derailleur setup tuning was simple enough that I could get it going without any hassles. On the front, Sram I have less worries about going smaller on the from chainring IfI want to. It worked so well I built a similar setup for the laaitie. 1x10 setup. SRAM carbon crank (English thread GXP BB) , XT derailleur & Shifter. Paired With Sunrace cassette and 32T Lynne chainring. The smallest I could go wit h this crank on 104bcd which was originally a 2x crank. The only worthwhile upgrade here would be a derailleur with a clutch.
  3. I would rather try and buy one instead. I know Solomons had a tricycle. Nice geared hub if I remember. Thanks Tumbleweed: I was actually refering to the Schwinn
  4. 68.8km/h to be exact! Lol that is flying!
  5. On saturday I received my email, confirming my entry for 2016
  6. So it time to start thinking about this again.... Will have to see if I can get an entry, and do the full distance on the BMX next year. The major difference this year is that I am now staying in Cape Town. Would like to train a bit, and go pedal the route, or at least part of it one weekend. I'm thinking Muizenberg to Green point on the Bmx Any takers?
  7. If you are unsure, you can sell the rigid fork to me for a steal! Congrats on a very nice bike!
  8. It sounds like the bearings might be over-tightened on the hubs.... An cycle shop who I will not name; serviced a set of Hayes for me once. After the service it was broken and wanted me to buy a new set of brakes. I took it to Solomons (on Lynnwood rd), and they serviced and bled them for me, and worked perfect for years to come. since then I have always received great service from them.
  9. I had a Titan Sport previously, and "upgraded" to a 2nd hand Momsen few weeks ago. It would all depend on the components, My Titan had some upgraded gearsets, and i never had a problem, and was a solid comfortable bike. The brakes could have been better... My momsen is already lighter, better wheels imo, and I have a few ideas, including 1x10gear setup which the Titan did not have (9pd cassette). It is difficult, as one cannot see the condition of the 2nd hand bike. I would say go for a new one, unless the momsen is a seriously good deal.
  10. I also have a Targus. Very nice bag. Although the thick padding gets a bit warm. Then I also have another bag from due south. Not meant for a laptop, but it has some ventilation between the padding and your back... Commuting is sometimes a pain, when I have to pick up the kids after work, but I try and do it as often as possible. We have a shower at work, and locker rooms. If I didn't have that I would not cycle to work..
  11. Where are you moving to? I am in the exact boat... Sold my bike in Pta, and moving down to CT end of August. I already bought a bike in CT though, and cannot wait to start riding again In the mean time, I try to tun a little bit, and hike on the odd occasion
  12. Makes sense, but these days normal road cycling (not racing) has become a dangerous arena. I'm going to go for more of a enduro style clothing & lightweight padding... It would definitely be a hassle on the duathlons, in the change station, but then again, i am not breaking records any time soon...
  13. Interesting! this is good example of technology being put to use.
  14. Ever wondered why most cyclist don't wear any better protection? and I'm including myself here as well.... Is it uncomfortable? too heavy? too hot? Risk worth the gain? What's the reason why people are willing to risk going 50km/h down the road, or down a rocky step, and wearing only spandex? There has to be some major advances in fabric tech, that a jacket can be breathable? Or did we just accept this behaviour?
