  1. It's that colour he's wearing! Drains him and makes him look older than he really is. I reckon he's a 'summer' person and therefore should not wear any neon colours. Also the angle of the photo doesn't do any of the men justice. Here's an article on what colours to wear and why. Carol Jackson's 'Color me beautiful' helped me choose the right clothes for my complexion at least 20 years ago. http://www.newstartat40.com/categories-2/4-season-color-analysis/ Maybe a chat to Mrs. Noakes is in order
  2. Thanks htone. Googled And also read that one does not need to count the calories in coconut oil as it is used as energy and not stored as fat. Jackpot!
  3. Ah ha! I have been reading posts on JUDDD (www.johnsonupdaydowndaydiet.com/html/how-to-do-the-diet.html) on the lowcarbfriends forum and am intrigued by the concept - 1 Up Day alternating with 1 Down Day. Combining this with LCHF seems very do-able.
  4. Random post. I don't take many meds - melatonin and the occasional Compral - but none-the-less found this link worth holding on to: CHO content of some meds ... http://www.ketomeds.com/KetoMeds.htm
  5. Good. Wish they would sort out the parking there though!
  6. Indeed htone, big pharma, aaargh, will rather follow krouxsa's gran's lifestyle!
  7. Er, um, the WHI was flawed ie. wrong ... bottom line, big pharma DON'T rule. 'The benefits of HRT, if initiated early enough in healthy women, are far greater than the potential adverse effects.' https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2009/190/6/benefits-oestrogen-following-menopause-why-hormone-replacement-therapy-should-be
  8. The comments are especially interesting here: http://synapses.co.za/lessons-bad-science-tim-noakes-samj/#comment-1098008699
  9. Love fatty Karoo tjoppies! So full of flavour. How can I go about getting hold of this butcher and how do I get meat from Merweville to Pretoria?
  10. USN Whey (Protein) Isolate - will go and read what's what ,ie. ingredients asap. Thanks P.AK., for the tip re spreading out my protein intake. Perhaps I should continue to make the smoothie with the protein powder and drink it at two sittings rather than gulping it all down in one go. More experimentation is needed. The only reason I have stuck to the protein powder is because of the smooth texture it gives to my shake - I reckon my protein intake from other sources is nutritionally adequate. I've read that gum mastic and guar gum, in minute proportions, can get rid of the frothiness too.
  11. Whey protein powder bad news for me. I followed my usual 'If Else End if' computer programming strategy by eliminating one ingredient at a time from my diet and then putting it back and moving on to eliminating another. Fruit/fructose elimination brought my weight down by a mere 500g in a week. Put the fruit back, took out the whey protein powder and lost 1kg in a week. Clothes fit better, my mood has lifted and I generally feel good again. Problem. My green/fruit smoothies are now horribly frothy without the added protein powder, so much so that I find I have to eat the smoothie with a spoon! Anyone else have this problem and solved it?
  12. Thatsme A kindred soul in a sad state of affairs. I have stalled too and am floundering. Is it the milk, the cream, the kefir, the full-cream yoghurt, a combination of all four, eating too little, eating too much? Too little estrogen, too much estrogen? I am lost and feeling so demoralized and demotivated so much so that I have just this minute eaten 4 forbidden liquorice allsorts, only 4 mind you : ( I think it's time to see an endocrinologist to work out just exactly where I stand hormone-wise as nothing has changed for me in my diet since June of last year and yet in the last four months I have seen a steady increase of fat on my belly and thighs. Winter has been over in Pretoria for at least 3 weeks, apart from a smallish cold snap, and I have been more active so what is with this creep? Loving this thread ... said this before : )
  13. You shouldn't swallow the oil that you have pulled as it is probably full of bacteria and toxins. 'The basic purpose is to “pull” bad bacteria from the mouth and spit it out in the oil when you’re finished (never swallow after oil pulling!). It’s the physical property of the oil that attracts all the “gunk” in your mouth, similar to the way the physical property of cohesion allows water to be so effective in the handwashing process.' 14. I stumbled upon this forum as a result of a LCHF search. So glad I did as I have learnt so much from this thread, thank you all. I buy brightly coloured plastic sieves from Shoprite/Checkers - plastic all round, mesh included, approx. R14.95. My Kefir grains do not like metal at all, I find that they become very crumbly and watery. Using a plastic sieve they remain firm and the individual grains are well formed. Anyone needing Kefir grains in Pretoria, please drop me a PM.
