  1. I just got mine from Pedal Power. Charging it up and will use it for the commute home.
  2. I welcome the rain. I get so sweaty and hot it doesn't make much difference to me. Lightning and hail are definitely issues. Not sure how to deal with them.
  3. They're taking cues from Apple. Wrap it in shiny shiny and then proceed to roger your captive customers once they're hooked.
  4. Andrew64 and I have started doing the Greenstone Hill - Sandton ride. Any more troepies?
  5. I could move my time earlier. I also ride along the Marlboro route. Where do you leave from? I ride from the Acacia complex on Emerald boulevard.
  6. Hi all. I have started riding my route fairly regularly. If you want to ride in to Sandton from Greenstone Hill/Edenvale, let me know. I leave at around 06:30ish (can be a little flexible).
  7. City: Joburg Route: Greenstone Hill -> Sandton (either via Marlboro or Atholl Oaklands) Days: Monday - Friday (approx. 6:30am depart and return at 17:00) Contact Person: Gareth Contact: pm me

  9. Did the over the moon race last night and very quickly realised my existing head torch was a piece of ****. Need something considerably more powerful but that won't break the bank and that I don't have to import from Timbuktu. Suggestions? Please limit specifically to head torches.
  10. I did it yesterday. Awesome! Just make sure you've got a decent headlamp or the single-track is a little more exciting than it should be. There's one every month (except January).
  11. Surely this, at it's very worst, would be far less chaotic than having cyclists on the roads? Also, it can't be any more dangerous than it already is to ride on the roads?
  12. There has already been talk of cycle lanes in Joburg. This would be easy (comparatively) to roll out and very safe. It would make commuting so easy. You just need to ride to your nearest access point and then zoom away without worrying about traffic.
  13. It seems to me it would be an easy solution. The infrastructure is already there, all they'd have to do would be to cut a trail and allow for access while fencing off the actual rail line. Surely it's not just me?
  14. Johnson cycle works in Edenvale is pretty good. They've been around for more than a decade. You could also try Tony Impi (Daryl's dad) in Bedford Centre.
  15. Once again thanks all. Very helpful advice. It looks like 6th Ave. is a winner. I will be doing this early in the morning. Probably before 7am depending on how long it takes me to get there. I'll be leaving Sandton at around 4:45 so traffic will be a shocker on the way back but hopefully I will have controlled this largely through my route selection.
  16. Thanks all. I don't have to cross there, it just happened to be on the "safe" route I've plotted. I think I'll head South a block or two and scope out the crossing as I go. I've had "the conversation" with the wife, which went ok (not) and plan on riding in on Friday or Monday. If I haven't responded to this thread by Tuesday afternoon I will be... hard at work with no time for playing on the hub (hopefully).
  17. Views anyone? Apart from that I spelled Louis wrong in the title... I have to cross but want to make sure I limit my risk (both in terms of traffic and tsotsis). At the moment my route (into Sandton, running East- West, as yet untested) takes me over at the intersection of Athol and Louis Botha. I would appreciate input on whether or not there is a more suitable location.
  18. I are thinking about it (sorry couldn't resist my inner grammarian). I live just down the road. All depends on whether I can get out of the office early enough.
  19. Er, this is completely wrong and very dangerous. You have to be inside a faraday cage for it to offer protection. Best advice I could offer to chainsaw is to keep some eggs in his pockets. That way at least he'll have something to eat while he's waiting for the ambulance.
  20. I'm thinking about this route: http://goo.gl/3JbT0g into Sandton from Greenstone Hill (Edenvale/Modderfontein). Still would like some troepies if anyone's up for it.
