  2. The "....500" events a series of 4 events put together by an oke called Rae Trew-Browne. THey are a free entry, no prize series of 500 km unsupported endurance events. The Ceres 500 was the first of the series and did a loop from Ceres across the Karoo to Sutherland, then re-crossed the Karoo back to Ceres. Very different to repeating 10 laps of a 50 km course with a nice refuel at each stop. I did the Ceres 500 and it was a pretty gnarly challenge with up to 200 km between water and fuel stops....
  3. Hi All In a moment of absentmindedness I unfortunately left my Oakley Jawbreakers (Prizm Trail, black and blue frames) in the showers at Karkloof Country Club on 13 July. I returned the next day but they were nowhere to be found...Its a long shot, but I would very much appreciate their return... Cheers, Jon
  4. https://www.cycletouring.co.za/ These guys can probably help you out....
  5. Pinkbike has some spy pics - no clarity as to 11 or 12 speed though
  6. Spank Oozy 345 rims - absolutely bulletproof. Lyne dropper post - cheap, but just works.
  7. What distances are you looking at doing each day? It looks flippen intense, respect.
  8. For breakfasts I usually eat instant oats. Lunches are normally pretty sketchy, I kind of snack throughout the day. Supper is usually tuna and 2 minute noodles or instant pizza made using wraps, cheese, tuna and whatever else comes to hand...
  9. Hi Guys While riding at Giba this morning my Speedsleev saddle bag fell off I would really appreciate its return. Thanks in advance
  10. Raptor 14 has got to be the best medium sized cycling bag out there. I have done over 2500 km of bikepacking with it, and its definitely the next best thing to not carrying a bag at all They're not cheap though...
  11. The Spank Oozy 345 (30 mm internal) rims are absolutely bulletproof, and its not a rim that every moegoe is riding....
  12. Thanks guys. I rode the route during November and December of 2017. Suffice to say it was physically the toughest thing I have ever done, but also one of the most rewarding experiences of my life I apologise for not keeping Bikehub updated; my internet connectivity was limited I will be doing a write up on my trip over the next few weeks which I will post here. In the mean time, there are plenty of pictures of riding in the Ecuadorian backcountry on my instagram account - @jagged_horizons
  13. I had a similar problem the other day when I changed pedals - try screwing the outside pedal pins down slightly; this will relieve pressure on the outside of your foot. It solved the problem for me....
  14. Hello from a very long time lurker on this forum. Over the last two years, I have been doing a lot of bikepacking type riding in ZA and in Lesotho, with my biggest trip being from PMB to Knysna, with numerous smaller trips in Lesotho. Last year December, while crossing Lesotho from Maseru to Himeville, I ran into an American guy bikepacking in the opposite direction, we talked and spent a rest day together....one thing led to another, and now I'm en route to Ecuador to ride rhe Trans-Ecuador Singletrack Route with him (http://www.bikepacking.com/routes/trans-ecuador-singletrack). I will be doing my best to keep my instagram account updated (@jagged_horizons) and time allowing, this forum as well, if anyone is interested.... Cheers Jagged Horizons
  15. Hey, I should have been more specific - I meant water purification tablets (Iodine or similar). There will be many times when your drinking water will come from seriously dodgy sources and you really don't want to risk gippo guts or worse....
  16. That sounds like a pretty awesome trip....I haven't done anything that long, but have done fairly extensive touring in South African and Lesotho. This has shown me two things: -The amount of fun you have while on the bike is inversely proportional to the amount of luggage you have. - The amount of fun you have while camping is directly proportional to the amount of luggage you have. So you have to find a balance. I personally think less is always more; you'll be surprised how little stuff you need. Aside from that, don't over-plan things just go with the flow.... You'll be able to buy food wherever there are people. As far as water goes, remember your purification tablets.... It sounds like an awesome trip, good luck...

  18. You'll struggle to find a 50 k day route that you can ride from Sani top - the area is fairly underpopulated with not too many paths around. Sani top is also in a depression in the mountains, before you get anywhere inland, you're looking at a massive hike a bike. Your best bet is probably to ride Black Mountain pass as previously suggested. Else....if you're feeling really adventurous and don't mind a bit of walking, PM me, I have a few ideas
  19. HV has finished, JD's tracker hasn't updated.... Sent from my SM-G361H using Tapatalk
  20. What a woman ....Interesting to see Masango's resurgence, at one point he had dropped far off the pace....
  21. Yes, it will fit...(you will need to change your BB - not an issue, as new shimano cranks come packaged with a BB.)
