  1. It could be because of him being a 'high altitude native'.....could be......the science seems to suggest irregularities... 'The challenge of monitoring 'altitude natives' in professional cycling' - http://decaironman-training.com/2014/03/19/the-challenge-of-monitoring-altitude-natives-in-professional-cycling/
  2. We were debating at training yesterday on who was/could be the greatest cycling climber ever.Of course there was the Belgian Van Impe, the 'Eagle of Toledo' Fredico Bahamontes, Charly Gaul - I personally liked Marco Pantani because he kept the 'climber' in the TdF alive with the advent of power riders like Indurian (in fact I wrote a post on this http://decaironman-training.com/2014/02/14/highlights-of-2013-world-ironman-championship-kona-hawaii/). But yes back to Quintana, at only 23 and has came 3rd in the TdF - alot of people said unexpected but I dont think that is fair - and is worshipped at home http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-23709753. I think he is ranked 8th but could he bring the 'climber' back to win a grand tour in this age of Team Sky and efficient teams? What do you think?
  3. This was a pretty cool video I found on youtube, very inspiring for any aspiring age group qualifiers!! http://decaironman-training.com/2014/02/14/highlights-of-2013-world-ironman-championship-kona-hawaii/ Anyone got any good GoPro videos from an Ironman?
  4. I have used clincher wheels for use and when my new racing bike came with deep rim wheels, I thought great. Stupidly I didn't do my research on the lack of inner tube on tubular wheelsets (stupid I know). Now I feel I have to get some clinchers at least for training as I will get nervous being 100s of miles from home on a training ride and getting a bad puncture. Anyone else feel the same?
  5. From Lance's twitter feed and Macca's challenge this race looks like it is on. I can certainly see why Macca wants to just go out and race the guy - as an athlete all your life you would like to just race for fun right? But no doubt this will bring up a lot of arguments in the sport. Fascinating event for cycling and triathlon nevertheless. I mean who will win anyway? http://decaironman-training.com/2013/12/09/lance-armstrongs-pro-masters-unsanctioned-race-who-will-win
  6. Thanks for the comments. Just had a look around forums, twitter, facebook on replies to this post, very funny. Wrote them up below: http://decaironman-training.com/2013/12/19/replies-from-the-web-are-you-a-serious-cyclist/
  7. Anyone else bored in the office today? I wrote this blog up a while ago on the places I wanted to cycle before I die. http://decaironman-training.com/2013/12/18/12-bike-rides-to-do-before-you-die-cyclingbucketlist/ Any riders want to share some better/other ones?
  8. Now I should explain, the Deca Ironman I am starting on June 28th takes place on day one at the Celtman Triathlon (details here: http://decaironman-training.com/2013/11/18/1st-of-10-ironman-distance-routes-confirmed-for-june-2014/ ) and for the next 9 days on the Tour de France route in Yorkshire. So that along with the desire to get some more road racing in, has put my focus on a good road bike. Currently in Singapore so getting a top level but reasonably priced Giant Defy Advanced SL 1 (like last years model or something) or a CUBE lightening is proving difficult. I was told the Boardman Aero was good and found one pretty cheap. Any thoughts? Oh course I will get Tri Bars etc......Thinking the World Bike Race in March 2015 so thinking about that also.....
  9. What's riders thoughts on these 5 painful programs? I mean have you ever done a cycling 'Fight Club'? http://decaironman-training.com/2013/12/16/cycling-is-not-just-something-you-do-at-the-weekend-5-days-of-midweek-training-showdowns/
  10. Just wrote this post on 'We are cyclists. Everyone else rides a bike. 20 ways you know you are serious.' http://decaironman-training.com/2013/12/18/we-are-cyclists-everyone-else-rides-a-bike-20-ways-you-know-are-serious/ Of course a little tongue in cheek but thought you may have some other examples - when do you realize you are serious? If you have read 'The Rules' by Velominati this was a bit inspired by that book!
  11. From author of article; Thanks Travisza for pointing out my error. Corrected that pretty sharply! Wrote it quickly at lunch and it was a typo between 2012 and 2013 World Champs. Yes Carfrae did win it in 2013. Big typo error, apologizes!
