  1. So my second gravel tyre exploded off my new carbon rim today.

Please can I have some advice on what gravel tyres to run on my gravel bike? Any recommendations? Looking for either 38 or 40’s.

Probably more important what carbon rims you are running. too wide and they will blow off. hookless and the tires will not work. Some guys trying to run MTB rims and they are often too wide.

  2. Event Name: The Cabal
    When: 13 April 2018 - 15 April 2018
Where: Trails End Hotel, Western Cape
    Category: Cyclocross

    A secret clique or faction.

Based at the Trails End Bike Hotel in Grabouw on 13 & 14 April 2018, The Cabal is a limited-entry event that will change the way you think about cycling.

Bring any bike. We don’t limit what you ride, focusing on the ride entirely. We recommend a Gravel Bike with at least 40mm tyres to get you through the day. Any less and you may not make it.

  3. Hi All.

On Monday, we took a group of 20 - 25 guys and girls on a new kind of cycling Tour. Here at Privateer we have a switchback problem. We love them. We hunt them. We dope on these beautiful pieces of road in our back gardens. In fact, we like them so much, we go out looking for the roads less ridden.

  4. There are a few roads going up to the Magalies ridge

    1. Just north of Bremmer st

    2. Otherside of the ridge towards Mooi Nooi side

They are not gravel but it could be good fun - even a dbl - bike/run for combined time.

I remember those areas - grew up in Pretoria.

Sounds a treat. Send us some photos and take us on a ride next time we are that way?

  5. Kosmonooit we had almost zero mechanicals.

1 x flat tire, with a mini sidewall.

One of the bikes had a cassette and chain replaced 2/3rds in, but this was due for replacement before the trip already.

As we are not riding hard and there is limited single track on the trip, the bikes were great, but here is a short list of spares that we carry:

    1. deraileur hangers

    2. shift and brake cables

    3. plugs and sealant

    4. crank bolts

    5. cable ties

    6. duct tape

with duct tape and cable ties, you can always make a plan.

  6. its nice to see that there are so many opinions. its also worth noting that you cant satisfy everyone, and I think the kit looks great, and kit always looks really bold on paper, but once out in the real world, its far more subtle.

imagine the kit on a bike, out on the open road, leading a solo break.

    awesome...
