  1. I think that if they don't reschedule ASAP they will lose all the cred they built up after last year's issues. There are bound to be loads of riders who have trained for the even only to be disappointed twice in a row ... A real pity though, I was sure this year would have been a significant upgrade from last year and the legacy builds were promising (even if they're a little wobbly).
  2. yeah me too, I rate we do the "unofficial" route come rain or shine
  3. Not likely ... too much invested, will just have delays and maybe a re-route around the storm drains ... can't see the paying back the money - he he he
  4. http://www.juma.co.za/wp-content/uploads/JUMA_Map.pdf they used to have the profiles on the site, replaced with this "Disney" map
  5. Hi, I was touched by Edgar's story (From part time trail builder to rider). I looked for him on the batching to see where he would start (he has big dreams of doing well) and I see that he is riiiiiiight at the back ... ZB group. Can't someone put some stick about to get him bumped up so he can enjoy the race? maybe E or F group? It sounds like he's been grafting for the event and it would be a shame for him to be delayed by the inevitable bottle necks which crop up on the course.
  6. Anyone know if a route profile is going to be made available for JUMA?
  7. Thanks for the link ... Is useful for setting routes and obsticale difficulty but is still pretty subjective in my opinion. Perhaps it's just the mathematician in me looking for a data driven answer
  8. Hi Hubbers, So I've been thinking about ways to rate/rank my rides and I wondered if anyone has any suggestions on how to go about it. So far I have the following data which I think is important: 1) Distance 2) Elevation 3) % single track 4) # of obstacles with warnings So the first two are easy from your GPS device so a ratio of the two gives a good indicator (meters climbed per km on average). The next two are a bit more subjective. Any thoughts?
  9. What group did you start in? I had this strategy to up my seeding too, hope it pays off!
  10. I had a good race on Saturday, did a 1:49 for the half which is a PB. I thought the course was a little boring though, more single track would have been good. I suppose if I want more to my race I should grow a pair and enter the marathon next year See you at the next one!
  11. 40km route profile. http://snippets.mapmycdn.com/routes/print/754727775/elevation.png?unit_type=metric
  12. I'm relatively new to the racing scene (6 in the past year and a bit) but here are my tips: 1. Be patient: You will be at the back of the seedings and might not be able to go at your usual pace until you get a better seeding. 2. Track!: if you are faster that others overtake on the right when it is safe to do so, to let someone know you want to overtake call "Track" and they will find a safe place for you to overtake (unless they're a 'koos'). 3. Track!: If someone is yelling this at you, find a safe place to move to the left and let them go (unless you are a 'koos') ;-) Also, if you stop, get off the trail asap. 4. Kit: Hydration pack is good, small munchies/gels are good, you will probably have some snacks on offer at the water points, stick with what you're used to (NOT: "hey a potato, let me try 6 and see how it goes") 5. Music: No no, not safe. Neither is a go pro on your helmet or chest (according to the organizers) so get a handlebar mount to avoid disappointment. 6. Have fun: The time may come when its all about the podium, until then, enjoy the ride! See you on the trail.
  13. Anyone know if these seedlings will count for Van Gaalens next wknd?
  14. Hi Hubbers, I have a "well used" SID team (2008?) and a new SID RLT (2013?). Which would you put on your bike? Mostly XC with some technical riding. Cheers.
  15. Yeah, prob not woth the effort. Happy with the 26er for now tough.
  16. Thanks guys, I wondered if I could replace the rear triangle?
  17. So I was looking at the geometry of my full sus Giant anthem 26er and wondered "if I change the front fork and rear assemblage would a 650b conversion be possible? Anyone know if it'll work?
  18. Hi, I also have a Giant anthem and wanted to have the option ride with he kids. What I went for was the Bilbi front carrier from sportsmans warehouse. However, it didn't fit on the front but works if you put it on the seat post and suspend over the back wheel. I find it stable and have taken my 4 year old in the spruit with it with no problem. Happy hunting.
  19. Hi, So I found this forum while trying to finding a seat for my kids (aged 2 and 4). I thought I'd share what I found. My challenge was a) it had to be cheap and b) it has to fit on my soft tail (most of the options I found were designed for hard tails). What I eventually went with was a Bilby Junior Front Mount (R700 from Sportmans Warehouse). http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/bilby-junior-front-seat.html#.U9jk6vmSx8E The design was to fit on the front of the bike and hover over the cross bar. However, my bike (Giant Anthem X1), and I guess many other Mountain Bikes, wont fit the mount. So I tried it on the seat post and hey presto! Now one of the kids can ride behind me and the other on my wife's bike. So as long as the kids stay under 15kg all should be good. Cheers!
