  1. Hi all- have removed an older TUBULAR - meaning Glued-on - MTB tyre off of a 26'er Carbon Fibre rim - see pics - and obviously do not want to negatively affect the integrity of the CF, so keen to hear which SOLVENT I could use to remove the H-A-R-D glue? It will not roll off with rubbing with my thumb, like back in the old Triathlon days, - this glue has SET, and is VAS! (pic 1 shows old glue. pic 2 is of clean section. pic 3 is the new Tubulars i have for the rims. pic 4 is of the complete rim (i have front & rear...) thanks CHris

    Do you ride a 26er?

Hi Guys, been wanting to ask this question for a while, I just want to know how many hubbers are still on 26er mtb's. simple question, simple answer. Yes or No. Thanks
  3. Hey Guys I stopped riding DH, probably around 4 years ago after I crashed and broke my wrist and my bike. My wrist healed but I never got around to fixing my my bike. I am now keen to get back into doing a bit of DH riding and am busy putting my DH bike back together. One issue I am having is finding 26 in DH tyres. It seems DH bikes have also now changed wheel size. Is there somewhere I can still buy 26 in tyres? I popped into Freewheel cycology, Olympic cycles and Bridge cycles and they don't seem to stock any 26 in tyres but not sure if they ever stocked DH equipment. I currently have maxxis minions and high rollers installed and would probably replace with the same tyres if available but am also open to try something else if needed. Thanks in advance for any advice. On a separate note I will probably need new tires for my 26 in XC bike at some time but that is less urgent as I have two sets with very little wear on them. Any recommendations for this will also be welcome.
  4. Hey guys, Here's the deal: I want to know how much you would pay for this 2011 Rocky Mountain Element 30msl. Let's say the condition is very good (see ad pics). Throw a figure out, or provide a range: highest and lowest amount depending on whatever your criteria are. The ad has everything you need to know. 26" lovers and haters are ALL WELCOME. Throw the offer on the ground or press it tightly to your bosom and sing sweet songs of longing. Thanks for your input.
  5. Ding ding, and in the left corner, weighing in at 10.9kgs... 1) KTM Race (2012) RockShox RebaXT SLX componentsTwo owners In the right corner, weighing in at around 11.4 kgs... 2) Merida Matts LITE 1000 (2011) RockShox Recon GoldXT SLX componentsOne owner Apologies for the pdf for option 2. Both in good condition. I find the KTM aesthetically pleasing. But more interested in rating each on actual quality etc. All thoughts and mockery welcome!
  6. Hi All I need some help, I have a set of Carbon Tubular Rims with DT Swiss 240s hubs front and rear and Tufo Tubular tires. Hubs are both QR The wheels are extremely light(don't know the exact weight) I have no idea what these wheels are worth, can someone please help with a decent price for this? I am looking at buying a set of cane creek wheels and hubs, should i rather keep my carbon wheels or is it a good decision to go for the cane creeks tubeless rims? One of the reasons for thinking about changing to tubeless rims are that i would like to go slightly wider on the tires, at the moment I have 1.95's. I don't know if you can go any wider with tubular tires and what tubular tires cost. Tubeless tires are so much easier to find. Thanks in advance.

  8. My son of 9 loves riding and has progressed from tiny makro raleigh through to a 20" silverback which all did what they bought to do. When it came time to replace his current bike I was looking at all the options and nothing I could find really ticked the boxes for me. The bikes were either small adult bikes, very heavy kids bikes - why should we make a little kid ride bikes of 14kg + or if you could find something that was pretty decent it cost a small fortune. So I decided to do a special build for him. 1st problem, finding an XS 26er frame, it just wasnt possible so in the end I found a really nice looking Titan Hades 26 9R kids specific bike, I didnt want any of the components but the frame looked great. Geometry just like a mini 29er. Bought the bike sold all the components on the hub except for the seatpost and seat. OK now I had a starting point. Wheels had to be tubeless, nothing worse as a kid having puncture after puncture (another reason why 24" wasnt an option). Found some ZTR Alpine rims for a bargain and built them onto some decent Tank Comp hubs I had in the cupboard. Fitted a Kenda small block 8 on the back and a Schwalbe Nobby Nik on the front - tubeless. Found some bargains on the Hub with regards to bar, cassette and chain. Bought a Deore 10spd clutch derailler. Then the decision 2 x 10 or 1 x10.........I finally decided on 1 x 10 for simplicity sake and with a range of 11-36 x 32 that would be perfect for pretty much anything he would tackle on a 26" bike. 2nd Problem, finding a crank. Why dont manufacturers make decent short cranks for kids . Very frustrating. 170mm or 175mm just dont work for kids and this can cause knee problems (no taking chances there) and makes pedalling very inefeiceint through the top of the pedal stroke. So I bought a Deore crank (not a hollow crank so easy to work with), sent it to fellow hubber Ampandy (genius) for some surgery. We cut out 2.5cm of the crank arm to reduce the crank to 150mm. His work is fantastic and after been flatted off with some waterpaper, sandblasted and powder coated it looks great and fitted with a green Kitted 32t wonder ring it should perfom just great. Final bike weight incl pedals and cage - 10.4kg Well here is the end product. Cost me a shade over R6000 (I had hubs, tyres, brakes and stem). I am happy knowing my son has a decent bike, and he is happy because his bike is uber cool.
  9. So I was looking at the geometry of my full sus Giant anthem 26er and wondered "if I change the front fork and rear assemblage would a 650b conversion be possible? Anyone know if it'll work?
  10. Hello fellow cyclists :-) I'm looking for some advice & your opinion please. I's a road cyclist, been cycling for 5 yrs & enjoying it (ride 100 to 125 every Sunday morning, riding a Silverback Space 2.0, full carbon, Ultegra), but recently thought I'd start looking into getting into some mountain biking on a Saturday to try & build up some strength & if I start enjoying it, then maybe also do some MTB races in the future, but for the moment more to just do some basic riding in JHB on a Saturday morning. Been doing my research, & visiting a few cycle shops & there is a wealth of info out there, enough to confuse anybody. I was initially convinced that I was going to get a 29er, but over the weekend, I tried getting onto a Titan 29er a small frame (http://www.titanracingbikes.com/29relite.html) & there is no space in-seem wise, so I'm beginning to think that maybe a 29er maybe be too big for my height size. (I'm 167cm tall). I was also looking at the following bikes: Specialized Rockhopper @ R8999. http://www.specialized.com/za/en/bikes/mountain/rockhopper/rockhopper-29#manuals Silverback Sola 4 @ R6999 http://www.silverbacklab.com/upload/2011_website_SILVERBACK/sola4_14.htm Titan 29er Elite @ R10k http://www.titanracingbikes.com/29relite.html So based on the above, what do you guys think? Am I too short for a 29er & will I battle on this size of bike, should I go with a 650b, or just go with the 29er. Also, any other tips to look or for (i.e. Air shock is a must, 8, 9 or 10 speed) or recommended bike to look at (budget is +/- R10k) Thanks in advance...
