  1. Unfortunatley this is a problem with the fork and the remote lockout mechanism. I too had a skareb which broke and got the same reply from the LBS. It is unlikely that your LBS broke your shock. You will need to send it to the Manitou agents in George to get it fixed. Not worth it. Buy a shock that can be serviced easily and has plenty spares available (in 4 years time).

  3. Raced the 60km at the front of the field. Good manners all round, even on the slippery single track the less technically adept riders pulled over at the request of "track" Hit the 40km riders on Pappegaai berg and no such luck. I think its just experience on the bike and as said simple manners and knowing the rules of mtb races. No exuse for pushing past less experienced riders even if they refuse to get out of the way. Sometimes its simply lack of experience and they are too nervous to move. No problem ride around them when its safe to do so!
  4. What about idiots simply riding on the wrong side of the jeeps tracks! Up or down! Seems there are lots of peeps with very short attention spans! Go around a blind corner on the wrong side and yeah you are going to get the fright of your life! Duh
  5. Been riding Tokai for many years! Was a bit dissapointed by the bidge, but WTF i dont really care! I know why its there! I am more interested in some points made earlier about not knowing what work is beind done where, and what are the future trails plans etc. And i am a member of some club called Amarider (not sure why though) since i pay my bucks for the Wild Card! Still cudo's to the trailbuilders! Its not easy work with limited budget! So all those crap talkers should volunteer a few weekends and earn the right to bitch and moan! In any case i want to see the Viagra slicking, big talking bozo's ride that bridge after it has developed the green slime of death covering that will inevitably appear very soon! It will be the tiny riders that screem murder for the bridge to go after experiencing the unique phenomenon of moering off a slippery bridge! And in this case they will have an extre half meter to go before blikseming into the gentle stream below! But, my take is that after the first few rains, the debris will build up under the bridge, the pressure will be too much for the Troll and it will dissapear on its own accord in any way!
  6. Judging by the small memorial erected at the spot of the accident i think this incident was fatal (it certainly looked fatal). Have not seen any reports on the accident so am not 100% certain.
  7. Casualty was a black male. Not that this should make a difference. And was commuting.
  8. We came past a bad accident last night at about 19h15 on our way back from Tokai forest. A cyclist was hit by a car at the bottom of Swaanswyk hill and tokai road (at the stop street where cars often dont stop or look) Just before the Tokai forest braai area (going up) There were cyclists applying CPR, but did not look good. The casualty was propably on his way home or going down to the shops. Did not look like he was wearing a helmet and had no lights or reflective clothing (that i could see). At that time of night you will be invisible. Dont know the circumstances of the accident, but motorists on that stretch of road must be weary of cyclists at all times. The way some people drive up that road is ridiculous (day or night). Cyclists seem to have short memories! You need to make yourselves visible! If you ride after dusk, you must have lights front and back! and reflective clothing! This includes MTBers out on the Mountains in the evenings! The riders that we pasted coming down tokai forest in the dark without lights! You guys are a danger to fellow cyclists and yourselves!
  9. Cape Town and the sponsors of the Argus benefit hugely from the cycle tour. Every year the same carnage ensues on our roads! The same old excuses for why nothing is done! deputy mayour urges cyclists to stay off roads where the speed limit exceeds 60km/h! Yeah right! MAYBE A BOYCOTT OF 35000 RIDERS WILL WAKE EVERYBODY UP! I have seen many good suggestions all over the place for things that can be implemented to make it safer out on the roads! Have not seen any actions! All i've seen in the last 18 months are two dead cyclists in the pavement and a few more in the papers! Attended the funeral for the latest victim last week and it struck me how we as SA'cans can just accept the bad state of things and carry on! We need some decisive action! Reduce speed limits (over weekends on busy training routes) Increase penalities (for both motorists and cyclists breaking the law) Make lights and reflective wear compulsory for cyclists Visible policing - zero tolerance Camera traps at strategic points
