  1. Go for it you could be a pioneer!! but be aware that it will be super busy as half of Maputo can now make the trip to Do Ouro in an hour .As far MTb around that area , there are lots of trails here and there and lots of soft fun sand if thats your thing . Also wear and tear on your bike is aggressive to say the least .The further you go from Malongone the less trails but very rewarding .Take plenty water.
  2. So there you have it ... as agreed by all sensible people who love mtn biking and a good down line the tree line in question is a down path only. Its also only for mtn bikes and not dog walkers , or trail runners . Why . Because its a bike path that was created by mtn bikers for the down hill run.The pioneers never rode up the path to create it . Before this creation there was far more friction and danger when everybody used to use the path next to the river and dam .Dog walkers , runners, mtn bikers ,stoned picnic lovers all used to congregate at various points and speeds leading to lots of fear and loathing and thus a solution was created to keep mtn bikers from the rest and so they could enjoy a nice bit of technical down without knocking anyone down or squashing any dogs. SO ITS A DOWN LINE OK !.As for the rest of the park ride respectfully and carefully within limits.
  3. Down ride is the best ride and any person riding up through the tree line is a kill joy and a real pain in the culo..... Weve been creaming this for 12 years and never have we ridden up ...anybody who does deserves to get ridden over . :devil:There is plenty of places on the spruit to ride technical uphill why do it here on one the most choicest down lines there is . Riders who do just dont get it .
  4. Its a great way to promote the town and encourage cycle tourism as opposed to bikey-pikey, cuisine ,"wildlife safari story" stuff.Real Mtn Bike People want to ride not eat (maybe after) MTn biking has exploded in popularity in the last 5 years and tapping the market for spin offs for small towns is good . My 2c. Have a start/finish area that has -Change facilities, hot showers etc. NB for guys/girls pushed for time off to meet the wife-hubby and kids somewhere requiring decorum. -Bike wash ...ditto above -A decent, clean, food service spot ( doesnt have to be fancy just tasty ,quick and varied ,bacon and egg and pesto rolls for example)include veg options +fruit +fruit juice ..fresh please. -decent topo and ACCURATE map of area and wider .VERY NB. -secure parking some kind of membership card with pricing options .R25 per entrance is fair.Make it expensive and nobody will buy the boerwors rolls.Or they will find somewhere that isnt ripping them off. -friendly staff. -sell bike **** too. -guides and so on will come later but get infrastructure in place first. People are unreliable , buildings are not. there free advice , all the marketing P's too. p.s Im finding increasingly the local accomodation venues in the Gauteng NW Magalies area are over priced , not deserving of their grading and often down right rude and ripoff because their is ais such a dearth of good places and lots of people to spend money.. WCAPE,E CAPE KZN venues offer far better value and hospitality . Some socks need to be pulled up.
  5. Howsit there are many people who would pay for a guided tour ...but there are many people like myself who want to ride in peace , solitude or with my tight knit group of bros without a guide to move along or tell when its time for a sandwich break at a pretty place. . Im very familiar with the magalies area and the cardinal issue is lack of passes which can link routes . besides Breedts nek there are two options .One to the highest point in the northwest is a tar road used to access the Sentech towers , from there there does exist in the drier times of year a path that is rough but negotiable to a farm and 2nd roads .The vulture feeding site here is something to behold but also to protect. The other option is a perfect sand road going over the ridge 5 km south of the option 1 passing close to the Castle gorge area. So we can all use Google earth etc and its not the most technically challenging area in terms of getting lost .In short people want to do their own thing and they will be happy to pay for it ala Northern farms . Getting somebody to ride with you and show you the way doesnt gel with me but other options do .remember this area is actually quite far to drive to from the major population areas so any riders who do come out here are usually serious ,not novice pedlars and wlll happily do 50-60km +.
