  1. Great looking bike! What fork and hubs are you running?
  2. Great, thanks for all of that! Huge help. I'm mostly riding in Stellenbosch which is pretty loamy and rocky, except for a few trails which are a bit worn maybe. Do you still recommend HD's? Not sure if you have ridden in the Stellies area. I'm 183cm, so ideally I might like to get a 60mm. I presume 760mm riser bars? My birthday is coming up soon so I'm trying to hint at a dropper .
  3. I have heard of two guys running the Revelation RCT3 who have only had it on for a few months and say they have started getting a bit "sticky". Could this just be from dirt collecting? Or has it got to do with the fork?
  4. Hey Guys, Will be getting my One Twenty within the week. Need some advice on my build though, please! Fox 2014 Evolution Series 140mm CTD Fork Wheelset Dartmoor Rocket Rims Dartmoor Spokes Dartmoor Nipples Dartmoor X-Drive front hub Dartmoor Rear Hub The other option I thought about was putting a Hope Evo 2 hub up front and a Novatec rear hub. or... Weight: ‎891g Front, 985g Rear Groupset: I want to run a 2x10 but can't find a Deore or SLX groupset with a 2x10. Any suggestions?? Tyres: Hans Dampf 27.5 x 2.25. Not sure about these? Same tyres up front and at the back? Other little bits and bobs: Headset: Not sure yet. Suggestions? Stem 70mm. Handlebars, grips and seat post I am going to all try get second hand on the hub. Any help at all guys, thanks!
  5. Hey Guys, In the process of building a new bike and I've narrowed my wheelset options down to two. Both of these are relatively unknown brands. Any advice welcome! (1): Dartmoor Rocket Rims : (2 x R750) = R1500 Dartmoor Spokes : (64) = R492 Dartmoor Nipples : R200 Dartmoor X-Drive front hub : R637 Dartmoor Rear Hub : R1232 Labour : Approx R700 TOTAL: R Approx R4451 (2): Rims: Remerx Hurry Spokes: Pillar PDB1415. Black double butted Pillar spokes. Nipples: Pillar Silver or black brass. Hubs: Powerway M77 series. TOTAL: Incl. labour R3895 Option 2 is being built by hubber CCD (EDIT, sorry!) and I have seen positive feedback from one of his previous customers. Main objective is strength and durability. Hub advice needed as well! Thanks guys!
  6. Cool, I will keep looking. Trying to find out about the Dartmoor products, wheels specifically, to see what the quality of them is like.
  7. They advertise their Rocket Rim as a enduro/all mountain rim which is exactly what I'm looking for! Best part about all of this is the epic colours they come in Jokes, best part is definitely the price.
  8. Spotted what looks like a great deal today: Dartmoor Rocket Enduro/AM rim = (2 x R595) Dartmoor Spokes (64) = R492 Dartmoor X-Drive Front hub = R637 Dartmoor Rear Disc hub = R1232 Nipples = R200 Total: R3751 Anyone heard of or had any experience with the brand?
  9. Who cares if it's mainstream? You're out to enjoy the ride, EPIC single track and views that are available in Jonkers. Surely you ride for enjoyment? Not to seek the most secluded trails available and then go ride on your ace. If you're out to have a good ride, Jonkers is up there with the best in the country, why not use it. Weird logic.
  10. Noob question: Why would you go for a lower quality rear hub and a better front hub? I would've thought it would be the other way around? Thanks for all your help.
  11. If only they were 650B! Thanks though!
  12. Do you not think the Arch EX's are strong enough? I'll be using them on a PYGA One Twenty with 140 up front. I'm roughly 84kg but ride pretty fast, if I do say so myself . Also, 28 hole or 32? Also also, do you recommend any spokes with that combo? Thanks for the advice!
  13. Definitely going for cheap and strong. Extra weight I can afford, I'm young so a few grams here and there just means I have to get fitter
  14. Any idea of the strength of these? Hub durability?
  15. Has anyone heard or experienced these http://www.rapide.co.za/pRAPIDE%20R27%20650B%20WHEELSET/Rapide-R27-650b-Wheelset.aspx#.U4RvTpSSxss ? Strength wise how do they stand up and what are the hubs like? VERY competitive price! Any spokes you recommend? I've bent one of those Alex rims before with the wide outer radius, wasn't even during an accident or hectic riding.
  16. Hi guys, Building a new bike and need advice on some new wheels. I want some fairly strong wheels on par with something like the Stan's Arch Ex or the Spank Oozy trail wheels but want to try avoid the price tag that comes with the "brand" of these ones. Anyone have any advice on great quality, small brand, wheels and/or hubs for 650B that will hold up to some hard trail riding? Any help at all would be great, Cheers!
  17. Do you think the front axle being slighty bent might have something to do with it? Also, surely the bike shops that have serviced the bike since the first serious bend should have picked it up before replacing the wheel? Especially after I told them my history of bent wheels, which I did. And most times I sent it in for a service, not just to replace the wheel.
  18. Cheers to that. PYGA One Twenty soon to replace my Scalpel 3.
  19. Cheers to that. PYGA One Twenty soon to replace my Scalpel 3.
  20. *not Stan's i23's, WTB i23's. Anyone has any other wheel suggestions please let me know!
  21. Thanks for all the advice. Will speak to the guys at the local shop, Flandria, and organise some stronger wider rims. I will look at Stan's i23's or something similar.
  22. The guy i bought the latest rims from assured me that these ones would hold up to anything I could deliver, within reason obviously. No rim is made to withstand almighty crashes.
  23. Hey guys, I'm riding a Cannondale Scalpel 3 (alloy frame) 29er lefty that I have had since last year August, so not even a year old. In that time I have bent (beyond any truing) four wheels. Three of the wheels were WTB ST i19 wheels and the most recent was an Alex Rims EVO 2.0. It has always been the front wheel that has been bending. I am around 80kg (176 lbs) but have been as light as 75kg (165 lbs) when I bent the first one. I know the wheels have been built properly, three different mechanics have built them so it can't be their error. It is also not while I am hitting any big jumps or anything, I know I dont have enough travel for that, one of them was a big crash where I wouldn't be surprised that it buckled but the most recent was going through a switchback, quite slowly too. I check spoke tension and pressure before I read EVERY time, because of the recurring issue. I also know the shocks are set correctly for my weight. Does anyone have any idea why I might be bending these wheels? Am I too heavy for the lefty shock? I am seriously considering selling my bike and replacing it with something like the Lapierre Spicy 327 or the PYGA OneTwenty 650B. (Around the R35000 mark (approx $3100)). Any advice or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks!
  24. You can use strava to find different routes through the "segments" function, instead of waiting for everyone to send you their routes. Just go onto the "explore" tab and go to the Jonkershoek area and look for a popular (or any) segment and look on the leaderboard and then click on someone's time and it shows you the route they road when they did this segment? This could be a help trying to fill in the "gaps" in your data. Hope I'm not being ignorant and this is of some help! If it isn't, reply and I will send you my gpx files of mine and my friends' jonkers rides. All fairly recent so they will be up to date with new trails etc. Thanks for this idea, would be a great feature to have!
