  1. Its always best to shut up and eat hey :-) Try eggs too - totally natural and an excellent, filling snack. I sometimes stuff 3 down my throat... you can bank on sometimes battling with the light headedness for about a month (i did anyway), and even now, after a year or so, I still have that on days where carbs are particularly low.
  2. It is going to be amazing... everyone who is anyone in the LCHF space is going to be there, including Nina Teicholz, author of Big Fat Surprise that Prof Noakes always quotes. I cannot wait for this!!! Am flying in from PE...
  3. There are many different reasons for LCHF - one of the benefits is weight loss, but the other benefits are really health. As Oxter correctly said, fitness, being lean and being healthy are 3 VERY different things (society things lean = fit and healthy). Anyway, the reason people sometimes dont lose weight on LCHF is 1. too much dairy 2. too much protein 3. too many calories (yip!). Most websites say "eat all you like" BUT that is strictly not true. We still have a calories in vs calories out thing. I am unfortunately not one of those people with an appetite that regulates what i put in my mouth - i can eat forever :-) I need to do the whole food diary thing. You dont have to be in ketosis to lose weight on LCHF.
  4. It took me 8 weeks to become fat-adapted !!!! But, it has been worth it since then. I am not as competitive as you guys, and am getting myself back up to doing longer rides (3-5hours) and am using water ONLY and am not hungry immediately after either! On shorter, high intensity rides (1h30), I also use water only. I havent tested this in a triathlon or anything yet though!
  5. There is a concept called carb-cycling, which seems to be clearly coming through here. Carb-cycling is great for those who dont Bant fully, but one must still be careful not to do to many Bant-carb combo's. You will balloon... guaranteed
  6. The source of the article is : Dr. Dwight Lundell is the past Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Banner Heart Hospital , Mesa , AZ. His private practice, Cardiac Care Center was in Mesa, AZ. Recently Dr. Lundell left surgery to focus on the nutritional treatment of heart disease. He is the founder of Healthy Humans Foundation that promotes human health with a focus on helping large corporations promote wellness. He is also the author of The Cure for Heart Disease and The Great Cholesterol Lie.
  7. Hi Dale - thank you SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. What nutrition apps support carbs in grams and NOT percentage of calories consumed? Myfitnesspal, which is brilliant, doesn't support this though. Or maybe someone has tips on tracing carbs? Help will be appreciated.
  9. Ok, Anal-Annie again :-( Guys, how do you handle it (mentally and nutritionally) when you are trying to be diligent about a training programme but work stuffs 2-3 days up... i know its not worth getting your knickers in a knot about and its also not worth trying to catch the sessions up... but yoh! its difficult. Is it just me?
  10. Hi - here is a link with some killer bread recipes. Let me warn you that Almond flour is RIDICULOUSLY priced. 300g for +- R90 at Dischem - no frigging way... http://authoritynutrition.com/15-low-carb-bread-recipes/
  11. Thanks Dale ... That's how I have it. Thanks also for mentioning about not being hungry after a long ride/race. I also find that I am not hungry for hours after that and my old habits sometimes want to kick in and I want to force myself to eat. Next day : no forcing needed
  12. You guys provide lots of comic relief !!, Need help. BMR is the basic energy calc just to get by. Clearly as an active person you re-calculate. So, do you on a daily basis take your BMR + exercise values to get full calorie needs or do you calculate a basic value using the whole "lightly active" "moderately active" etc. Myfitnesspal is great as i have my BMR and add daily activities. Am I on the right track? Ps : this is not ruling my life, I am just teaching myself and experimenting.
  13. You guys all seem to have it together. Comment : So, I have stepped up my training a lot over the past few weeks and food is going well. BUT today I absolutely couldn't get enough food in. I wasn't craving sweets ... I wanted food and lots of it. My breakfast was so big that I had eaten 4200 of the 6000 kJ for the day (BMR - no training today) and I could have had more. Of course I ate a cr*p load more. Do any of you have munchie days? Must say, it doesn't happen too often.
  14. Firstly, I have NEVER heard Prof Noakes say his diet is revolutionary. His book is called "Real Meal Revolution" which speaks so accurately - we have had to revolutionise the way we eat. So, first mistake. Secondly, what's unbalanced about this diet? We still get all the nutrients from every food group (excepting where breads, cereals and grains are concerned) - just in the correct quantities. Thirdly, nowhere does the diet propose an increase in protein - on the contrary its clear that it needs to be MODERATED. The Atkins diets does propose and increase in proteins, and this diet is similar but NOT the same in this respect. Fourthly, where is the evidence of heart disease? Diabetes - the Prof proves this is crap. Kidney problems - evidence? Constipation : valid, but this is hardly death-defying. Cancer?? Dr Craig Thompson, President and CEO of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre says that eating fat, we do not increase the risk of cancer, but eating carbs definitely increases the risk of cancer. Prof Noakes explains that cancer feeds off carbs and sugars - if you starve the body of this - you starve the body of increasing its risk. Fifth, can the thousands of people who have benefited from eating this way (come off statins, BP meds, diabetic meds, lost hundreds of kilo's) all be wrong?? Sixth : I think this is professional jealousy and a selfish concern about losing face. The fact that these scientists do not have the balls to even consider that they may be wrong is the crux of the matter - its based on losing face. I say : PROF NOAKES FOR PREZ...
  15. THANKS FOR ALL THE RESPONSES - a tiny seed of doubt can so easily de-rail unless you keep a clear head and ask questions. Appreciated. I just hope this china now does what we have all suggested - WAIT and then re-test. And... see someone who isnt stuck in the dark-ages of science and nutrition.
  16. I need help. A friend of mine has been LCHF for 5 weeks. He has lost an amazing 8kg. He went for his cholesterol test and the doctor is saying his cholesterol levels are so high he WILL have a heart attack and not even meds will help him now. I have read hundreds of studies and am so convinced that this way of eating is correct, but I have a little doubt on this one and am concerned. I would imagine that his results are total cholesterol and I have asked hom to get LDL and HDL results. How can we go about making sure that this is the correct diet for him?
  17. Hi guys, not sure if this will help. On all the reading I have done on LCHF, and listening to the good Prof at a talk the other day, we need to increase salt intake. I have never ever suffered from cramps but every now and again I do feel a twinge!! I am also not sure that there is a remedy for cramping - but we have nothing to lose hey !!
  18. Geez bru - well remembered regarding the 2kg. Nah, after the posts and answers i received, i realised that I will lose this in training over the next while, so no worries. Cant really eat more - I feel I am eating what I need to and wouldnt be able to get more in, BUT maybe I need to force down some more fat...?
  19. Guys - I have read all the comments about carb flu etc. I had carb flu for about 5 days, had a bit of a "fall off the wagon" and then had to re-do the whole mission to get into ketosis again. The process has been about 3-4 weeks now. I am trying very hard to keep my carbs under 20g/day. BUT MY WORD my body is DEAD. Granted, I havent trained much for about 6 months because of a foot op but have been running again for 3 months and started cycling again this week. Even so, a light 1 hour ride with a 5km run in the arvie is KILLING me. Do you think its the food? Would appreciate your feedback.
  20. Hi guys, need some help. I havent cycled for a year due to a major foot injury. I was operated on in December and am now able to start running and cycling. I am a little irritated with myself because I should have started about 4 weeks ago, but as running is my first love I took that gap... it is also SOOO dark in the mornings. Any ideas on a 4 week base-training program??
  21. Ok, so I have really irritated myself - all the answers I have received based on my earlier I already knew. My point - why did I need validation of this? Idiot woman. Jokes aside tho - thanks guys. Obviously you are all right and you did in fact make my day.
  22. Guys, help me here. I have been on LCHF for the last year. I have lost ZERO weight, although I feel good health-wise (ie no IBS etc). I want to lose some weight as I want to do some cyling and running races again this year. Current BMI is 20.4, but I know that I can safely go to 19 or even 18.5 which would mean I need to lose about 2kg. I have done VERY little training for more than a year now as I had to have a foot op and am only now getting back into the swing of things. I have been incredibly strict with my eating though and would have thought this would get me to where I want to be. A tad disappointed I must say. Please make my day :-)
  23. I would agree that you are rpobably too early into the adaption. Remember, your body is going to feel CRAP for a bit (at least, I did) and it may take a while to get through that initial phase of fat adaption. I am coming out of it now and feel like a different person. Maybe you should cut back for a bit because the banana and 32GI etc are pure carbs... taking you back to where you dont want to be.
