  1. And here we are guys. Have a look at how much punishment the Tufo Tyres with Sealant can take. https://tokencycling.co.za/tufo-tyres-tested/
  2. We shall test all kinds of glass cuts That is one of our main complaints here in JHB
  3. Guys just to be clear. We are going to be testing this on a Road Bike Tire
  4. Keep them coming. @Tothehills Sjho... I will show you some safer routes to cycle. Far away from the East Rand
  5. Hi Guys. So we have a few demo Tires we want to cut with glass and stick it full of thorns. But how fun will it be if you can't be part it. So here it is... you have the opportunity tell us what you want us to put through the tyre. And we will watch it seal. all the nasty stuff that made you walk home or had to call your Liefie to come pick you up. We will make a video of this and post it on the Bike Hub On Friday Morning. We will be using the TUFO C S3 Tubular Clincher 24mm for this experiment with some Velowurks Sealant and TUFO Extreme Sealant

  9. Fair comment. We didn't anticipate such a demand, but finally received confirmation that our back-order is ready for dispatch, so should be available next week
  10. Hey Pal, I don't mind if you have a different opinion to me. In fact that's the nice thing about an opinion, it can't be wrong... I was just pressing for a better understanding of why you felt anything other than your clincher preference was "complicating" it. But if you're happy with your clinchers that's cool
  11. Hey V12, I definitely didn't miss that trock (trick , and in fact I also bring in the self-sealing tubes by Velowurks as well. You're right, very effective indeed and I sell hundreds of them a month. It doesn't work as well as the sealant in the tubbies though, and I state this categorically because most of the people I ride with ride clinchers and even with the sealant in the tubes (Velowurks & "other") their tubes eventually need replacing sooner than my tubbies do. I think this has to do with the added movement between the tube and the tyre compared to a tubby, that tends to continually break the seal created by the sealant, and therefore the tubes eventually run out of sealant from the constant resealing, and subsequent leakage. So no, not going back to clinchers any time soon
  12. Got a couple of demo / 1yr old sets with new TBT Ceramic bearings going for a steel you know... #justsaying
  13. You should be so lucky, because if there were you could steel them...
  14. Absolutely. Bring me your wheels and tyres and I'll even install the free sealant for you ;-)
  15. Some valid points Skadonk, but a few exaggerations too I fear In reality, everyone carries a CO2 cannister and adapter for tyres anyway. You definitely don't need to carry gluing tape either, so just a spare tubby if you choose. And as for taking " a good half hour change time", dude we need to meet for a lesson I'll probably change a tubby faster than most people will change a tube. Or I may take a few seconds longer. But we're talking 2 minutes at the absolute most.
  16. Agree 100% regarding Stans in a tubby, bad idea! But then that's not what it's designed for I suppose :-)
  17. Yeah it is just a single data point, I will certainly concede that. But the main thing for me is the advances in sealant technology mean that although I did in fact suffer several "punctures", and lost a bit of air pressure at times (and at others the pressure loss wasn't even noticeable), not once did I actually flat. In fact, not once did I even need to stop and re-inflate the tubby. Every time I suffered a puncture the sealant did the job, and I continued with my ride, often none the wiser. After the experience of the last year, all I ride with is a CO2 canister and valve, and a can of the tyre-weld stuff. And if that doesn't work, then Uber it is. If that happens once every 12-18 months, then it's a fair trade-off for me :-)
  18. Yeah fairly, 24mm... Have a squiz some time when you have a spare moment http://www.tokencycling.co.za/wheels/road-tt/zenith-c50-carbon-clincher.html
  19. I've listed them in the very first post of this thread, that was my whole reason for starting it. I'm struggling to find any practical advantages of clinchers listed above, that's why I'm pressing people for reasons behind their preferences Patch.
  20. So what is it then about clinchers that make them a better fit for this imperfect world?
  21. Fair enough, and each to his own. However I'm curious as to why you feel that clinchers are a better option? Sure, there have been vast tech improvements in clinchers, and that's great, but what is it about them that now makes them a preferable option for you?
  22. So what is the difference between your statement and: "XYZ 40mm tubby's + Elite S3 tubular tyres with sealant, why complicate it? And why stop to fix the occasional puncture either?"
  23. I think this might answer your question: http://www.training4cyclists.com/how-much-time-does-extra-weight-cost-on-alpe-dhuez/ The bottom line is that weight does indeed make a substantial difference, and weight on the wheels an even bigger difference than weight on the bike or person. If you're looking purely at speed/time trade-off, like in a TT, then the margins may seem insignificant. However, if you're racing against others as in a road race, then those few seconds that you may lose on a climb due to heavier equipment (wheels) could be the difference between you riding off into the sunset with a small group that get's away vs watching that same small group ride up the road without you ;-)
  24. 100%, we ride our bikes because it makes us FEEL... (whatever it is that each one of us feels) So yes, "feel" is very important. My tubby's make me feel fast! So I just close my eyes when the other guys ride away from me, that way the feeling remains But what do you feel are the pro's of clinchers that makes you prefer them?
