  1. Can anyone please advise on a place where I can have a proper TT bike setup/fitment done in the klerksdorp Potchefstroom area. thanks,
  2. Do not underestimate the strain that is put on your neck by being in the aero position. Remember you head is the first thing hitting the wind. You need to get use to this, otherwise your neck is going to kill you on race day.
  3. Motorboat Brbbrbrrbbrbbbrbrbrrbrbbr
  4. I think he already did that in 7:45 something,
  5. Agree 100% with him (although I think he is an idiot) with regards to the races being overpriced and that organisers just want to make money. This has stopped the sport from growing as much and as fast as running. Then again while the opportunity is there and the demand is there can you really blame someone trying to make a living of it. It's a difficult situation. My opinion is that if you can focus long term then asking less will bring more people to the sport and thus create more long term sustainable opportunities to make money. What I do not agree is that it is an elitist sport. I do not earn a lot my bike is not R50 000 (not even R10 000), my wetsuit was second hand. In fact the most expensive part of triathlon is NO1 entry fees and NO2 good running shoes because I have to replace them every 1000km. The bike I only bought once, the wet suite once but takkies every bloody 1000km. Thus the running part is the most expensive. Yes it is easy to fall into the trap of wanting all the goodies and all the new tech but that's live. Always wanting more. I'm mostly a cyclist that do a bit of tri and I generally think that triathletes are some of the most friendly people you get.
  6. I use a different approach. I do not tell any one I did an ironman. Usually when my training start I tell every body I'm going to do Ironman. The only reason is that when I have to wake up early to do a long ride and sleeping in sound like a better idea, I think of to how many people I will have to explain why I did not finish because every body will ask "how did it go". So I rather take my lazy ass and go ride to avoid any embarrassment after wards..
  7. Winning time for overall men was something like 7:52. more interesting however is James's time in th same race 8:18 one minute from being chicked.
  8. Last three years winning times: 2010 - 8:23 2009 - 8:17 2008 - 8:18 Chrissie Wellington world record 8:19 Yes I do think she has a chance of beating the guys or at least top 5. Maybe she won't do 8:19 again at PE but I think PE is (with no wind) a fast course and that she will place good.
  9. thanks, will have a look on twitter a bit. hope he and james can make a good race of it this year. Also hope Chrissie doesn't beat them.
  10. I always like to follow the guys blogs leading up to ironman. I enjoyed Raynrds blog on his World champ prep. Since then he has been very quite. See that James cunnama is actively racing. Was wondering what is going on in the tissink camp leading upto Ironman. Did not see him at EL, he injured??
  11. Don't know if this has been mentioned yet. I shave because on a hot day it feels (maybe it’s just me justifying the fact that I shave my legs) as if my legs are a bit cooler. The science part of it is probably that because there is no hair to trap the moisture it evaporates faster and thus giving the cooler feel. I don't know if this makes at all sense but my legs, at least on the surface, feels cooler with no hair and yes the massage thing is also a good reason.
  12. It is a large (57cm)
  13. I've got a Raleigh carbon time trial bike that I'm currently trying to sell because I do not use it any more. I thought that maybe a can use the frame and just ad road bars and shifters and use it as road bike, because I think it is a very good frame. I know the geometry of the time trial bike is different. I've attahced a comparison between a typical raleigh road frame and this frame. Am I an idiot to want to do this? and what should I take into consideration? I'm asking because my understanding of cycling is: get on the damn bike and ride it. Any comment are appreciated. Time trial vs road geometry.doc
  14. Can anyone help me with some advise on saddles. I'm currently using a profile design stryke saddle. My plan is to do the ironman. The big benefit of the saddle aparently is the cutout has additional supports so it does not collapse. Problem with me is than I'm a bit heavier and now I actually sit on these support. After about 100k's it feels as if I'm sitting on blads. Can anyone recommend a saddle for the ironman (time trial position) that is suitable for a heavier rider.
