    Lubes

Worry less about the type of lube and more about cleaning out/off the dirt - and getting the water out!
  3. I know an oke who brought in a 125cc MX bike - him and a couple of chinas
  4. Cool What do they weigh - hand luggage to France??
  5. Cant get this little bike to fit me! It's 52cm and my wife prefer's her Fuji. So we need to move it along and start with the next project. Have a look at "for sale" I am moving it at a tad less than my cost.
  6. I sent a mail to the oke who owns Rossin now - here is his reply: Dear Mr Lee, thanks for your message and for contacting our Co. of course we are able to inform you about your Rossin Frame' infos. in order to allow us to do that we really need to get some pictures of the frame and fork, and also would be preferred to get the frame's serial # which should be engraved under the bottom bracket shell or inside L o R rear dropout. those further infos would help us to provide you much more detailed infos due for the reason that PERFOMANCE EL frames has been produced in 2 differents versions (from early 1992 to end of 1997): PERFORMANCE EL Oversize PERFORMANCE EL Mini both of them has been produced with Columbus EL tubes, special made (in triple butted) under ROSSIN specifications. the both 2 frames versions has been produced in filled brazed welding (main frame's triangle) and brazed on welding way as per the seat and chain stays. for your informations those frames was officially introduced on the market from ROSSIN as frame sets (which include frame and fork) and as complete bicycles. the equipments offered from Rossin (originally) for Complete bicycles was: SHIMANO DURA ACE SHIMANO ULTEGRA CAMPY RECORD CAMPY CHORUS CAMPY DAYTONA thanks for your understanding and waiting for getting your extra infos. at your disposal for any extra informations if needed. finally, many compliments with your choice and for your efforts in re-built a Rossin Bicycle. many of our Clients are working on such as kind of re-built...we are preparing (in the next few months) a new web page / blog on our web site where the ROSSIN owners can list there their re-built bicycles and write there about their experience on them. my suggestion is to provide us your bicycle's pictures as soon as your work will be finished. wish all the best. cheers, Andrea Chiarini GRUPPO BICI srl Rossin dept via Pitagora, 15 47521 CESENA FC ITALY
  7. Start it here - "Vintage and Classics - your pics" and ask the moderators to "pin it" if it works!
  8. Very un-PC, but it's an old habit - French cycling helmet - aka black Beeni. Only wear it when its still dark so nobody chirps about the "no helmet".
  9. No - cannot comment on full carbon stuff - dont know
  10. We have a few clever George hubbers - Matchstix is one?
  11. AAArg - spotted a snag - are you sure it's 45cm? Make sure it fits u!
  12. You must get someone to go with you to look at the bike. Campy bits and a decent frame may not be that serious. The "bottom" of the market is about R3500. Take one of these clever dick slaapstad hubbers with you to see the bike - then you will know for sure. R3.5k buys you sh1+ here
  13. Wow - DHC rings a very distant bell! Great bikes - never saw a pink one though
  14. dont forget the pics. Maybe we need a "classics" pic gallery??
  15. Maybe a tad??! I have found that it's actually not something you are going to make cash out of After you add up all the costs - even if they are all pretty modest, you get to about R3k. Who is going to buy it for R3k when you can get a new (second hand) Raleigh for R3500? It's good fun though - and it rides like a dream...
  16. Sort of ended up with two fairly nice looking Omega frames. Both needed minor repairs and a hanger. Does anybody know anything about Omega aluminium frames??
  17. Aqteros - seriously kidding about the running My wife got a bee in her bonnet a couple of months ago to start cycling. She was not interested in a road bike - to tall and scary she said. I was not in a position to get her a "real" MTM and bees had come and gone. So I put together a real basic MTB out of what was lying around. Heavy as hell. Anyway she started riding with us in the mornings. Far at the back. Eventually she wasnt so far at the back, but I could see she was getting discouraged. So I bought her a Fuji road bike. Now we are all in a bit of k@K. She flies! My point is, that you can get into cycling in many ways and you are not stuck anywhere. Her 1st bike cost about R400, but it got her started. I dont think that it sad that your friend is on a road bike - she can change anytime she wants to?
  18. Aaaaarg Porky! You are going to be the guest of honour at a spitbraai! Encouraging an oke to go running on a bike forum
  19. Tell your friend to look for an old road racer. They can be found for as little as R1000 and this will be good enough to get him started. Running will cost more for the shoes! The bike I ride is 10 years old (steel) with Durace & Suntour bits. Its a tad heavy (compared to a tractor) but you work out better. When I am big I wiil buy a carbon bike and kick all these lighties assess
  20. The customer is part of the problem? If I offer you a set of wheels for R30k and another set for R13k which set is the best in terms of design, strength, weight and functionality? Well, it must be the R30k set of course. Why? Because it costs more. Problem. We are starting to lose our ability to distinguish between products based on what it looks and feels like - we rely on the price to be the indicator. So - a R100k bike is twice as good as a R50k bike? That sort of logic says that a R1k bike is total k@k. The retailers have caught on to this little problem that we suffer from and they make products especially for us. I ride for fun - so equipment does not matter that much. Of course I dont say that it doesnt matter - but the difference between a R10k and 30k bike is not that important to me. If you are a top rider that is shaving seconds off your times then I guess that every gram of performance counts - whatever the cost. How many of us ride at that level? Having said that it's your money and you can spend it any way that you want to. I must admit that it feels better to ride a R85k bike than a R1k retro!
  21. Thanks. It does look like they made some pretty good bikes
  22. Hi Jaqwil. It does look similar. Funny thing about Rossin is that I see that they made a number of great track bikes in the 80's/90's but there is very little info on the net about Rossin - particularly this "Performance EL". The frame is different in that there are no head tube lugs, and the seat tube has a semi-lug for want of a better discription. Maybe some other hubbers know more about Rossin. BTW - its not quite finnished
  23. Thanks boet - but keep it low - I am going to try and smouse it on the "for sale" board for R7k!
  24. Hey Onemac - here is your old Rossin frame. Old Durace cranks & brakes. Scott saddle. Sorry about the Sora changers but thats what I had
