  1. Could you however recommend the Ardent as a front tyre for intended purpose? (Non-technical XC lightweight female rider)
  2. Thanks, would have potentially considered that but all-out too lazy to drive to the North. Will make a purchase at CWC Green Point
  3. Thanks for the input on the Barzo... The Crossmarks on special are only 2.1, and the now-back tyre will be 2.2 This one probably fits the scenario best, but is also the most expensive. Will probably have to go for it though. Thanks for the inputs thus far.
  4. Hi all I would like your inputs with mtb front tyre choices for my sister. She rides more distance on road / dirt roads and will be doing the Argus, so no heavy tread patterns needed. That said, I have a love of heavy tread and would like to subliminally influence her to like it aswell In the back will be a worn Maxxis Ikon 2.2. For the front I see the following are decently priced at CWC: Maxxis Ardent 2.25 Vittoria Barzo 2.25 Maxxis Crossmark 2.1 Racing Ralph Snakeskin 2.25 My preference would be a Maxxis Crossmark, but only the 2.1 is on special and the back tyre is a 2.2. Next option is the Barzo. Would it be too aggressive? Looking forward to hear from you. G
  5. Great read, pretty much me on every diy experience to date. The guardian wrench-angels do protect the foolish and beer-headed
  6. Report back - I went for Onza Ibex 2.25 as a front wheel, and moving the Canis 2.25 to the back. Were some pretty looking Vittoria numbers at the shop, but the lug layout (and price) of the Ibex makes more sense
  7. Thanks guys
  8. I did this as a test to see how it holds up. Surely if it cant handle higher pressure it will fail at riding pressures? Perhaps plug, pump to 2bar and a ride around the block is an option to get it to seal
  9. Thanks Myles. Would the beefy Ibex not be worn out from road riding? That, and would the 2.4 width still work with my 24mm Giant rims at low pressures? Could you perhaps also comment on the option of saving a weepy racing ralph with a cut that keeps lengthening as I keep adding plugs? Last night I plugged it with 3 and pumped the tire to 3bar, 15 minutes later the pressure forced all 3 plugs out of the cut, sealant everywhere.
  10. Hi all. Looking for your advice. I have Onza Canis 120tpi front and Racing Ralph Snakeskin rear. The RR is weepy, perished and has a big cut that 3 plugs couldnt fix. Should i try and fix it and if so, how? If not, i need to buy a tire...now i need to either get another low profile tire in the back, or move the Canis to the back and get a bigger tyre in the front. Use is hardtail xc, with a lot of sub 20km road rides in the week. Although i would like something meaty for the trails. My options this far are either a 2.3 specialized tires or Onza Ibex for the front, or another Canis / Maxxis Crossmark UST for the front/back. Advice please, bearing in mind the road use now and then. Will the road eat up a fat front tire? Thanks in advance
  11. Saw a boomslang crossing the road on table mountain road today. It startled when it saw us, and made its way into the bush within splitseconds. All in all an awesome experience
  12. it turns out, snakes hunt at night, too. And I am the fool hiking at night without a headlamp. A mere week ago snakes were only a figment of my imagination, now they present a real consideration. But, alas, rather a snake than the taxman.
  13. So it seems lightning fast reflexes and a spot of luck is the answer. The puffy I saw was a beautiful specimen, it even turned its head to look at me when I made my ridiculous stop-and-starting-running-in-the-opposite-direction move. Its nice to observe and appreciate these creatures, from a distance....
  14. Haha, i should have taken a pic, it was a mature sized snake
  15. Yesterday i was cruising down a jeep track in deer park (ct), and saw something resembling a log in the middle of the road. Then when i got close i realised its a puff adder crossing the road. Managed to stop within metre or 2 of striking distance. This made me think - how does one handle such a situation when you cant stop? Go past head or tail, or through the middle? Bunny hop? Ride over it and hope it doesnt catch the spokes? Would love to hear others stories.
