  1. People of the hub Myself and Kate and potentially 1-2 others will do a chilled ride on Thursday morning (13 Apr) - from Virgin Active Wembley Square to the Blockhouse and back. Reasonable pace. Meet at 6h30 sharp. You are welcome to message me, otherwise respond to this thread, or just be there. Gerhard (zero eight four) 730 6222
  2. Hi all I am still looking for a weekly MTB riding group of some sorts in Cape Town City Bowl or surrounds. Will latch on to anything, fast or slow, as long as I can ride with others and not only on my Pieter Dirk Ace. My working hours are flexible. Entered two gravel grinders for the year, so have something concrete to work towards (50 miler and K2C).
  3. Could you however recommend the Ardent as a front tyre for intended purpose? (Non-technical XC lightweight female rider)
  4. Thanks, would have potentially considered that but all-out too lazy to drive to the North. Will make a purchase at CWC Green Point
  5. Thanks for the input on the Barzo... The Crossmarks on special are only 2.1, and the now-back tyre will be 2.2 This one probably fits the scenario best, but is also the most expensive. Will probably have to go for it though. Thanks for the inputs thus far.
  6. Hi all I would like your inputs with mtb front tyre choices for my sister. She rides more distance on road / dirt roads and will be doing the Argus, so no heavy tread patterns needed. That said, I have a love of heavy tread and would like to subliminally influence her to like it aswell In the back will be a worn Maxxis Ikon 2.2. For the front I see the following are decently priced at CWC: Maxxis Ardent 2.25 Vittoria Barzo 2.25 Maxxis Crossmark 2.1 Racing Ralph Snakeskin 2.25 My preference would be a Maxxis Crossmark, but only the 2.1 is on special and the back tyre is a 2.2. Next option is the Barzo. Would it be too aggressive? Looking forward to hear from you. G
  7. Hubbers, This bloke does a nice rant to make you wanna shut up and ride. Watch if you need a dose of HTFU. Ignore the last minute or so.
  8. Thanks for the advice everyone, I ended up just plain plugging the hole (twice) and now the tyre is again holding its pressure. Credit card back into its stable before things got ugly
  9. This seems to be the prudent approach Although this approach seems very much up my alley Decisions...
  10. Hubbers I have an annoying puncture on my rear tyre - its not too big (think standard thorn size and round), but sits right on the edge of the rim bead and the sidewall... I though I got it to seal but just as I relax I hear that annoying "pshhhhhhhhh" again. Havent taken it on long rides since the puncture. The tyre is a toilet paper thin Onza number. Do I have hope of making it seal by repeated pumping and riding or is the tyre done by default, as the puncture is right on the edge of the rim bead? Tyre still has lots of life left for a rear tyre. Pic attached Your advice please! Regards, Gerhard
  11. Thanks for this, my laptop is going off over 4 years. My accountant will slap me
  12. Yes bike-specific is probably a stretch. Havent looked at options yet, just got the idea now. Tax-deductible shopping is s sideline hobby of mine
  13. Hubbers, I pay provisional tax, so i can claim a bunch of things from tax including computer cellphone etc. Thinking of getting a GPS mainly for hiking and perhaps on the bike, but also need it to locate clients and determine locations on the fly. I work in agriculture and now and then need GPS locations of dams, pumps and pipes. And i get lost in the sticks on a weekly basis. Is this a good enough reason to claim a GPS buy from tax? A bit of a mock-friday off topic but hey its a bright spark and i actually need the device to hike the Drakensberg. Looking forward to hear from the Tax Tims out there
  14. Thanks all, will have another go. I have another new hanger that i could also try. Did have a look at the link between cage and body, but it looks fine. Perhaps i could remove cage and try to bend it better. Will have to wait till the weekend so i can bum an rd off a friend to see if a different one works.
