  1. Still some accommodation available at http://www.11karkloof.co.za/
  2. Looking for a 2nd hand good condition 10sp chain for a bike build for Howick MTB Club trail worker. Happy to collect if possible.
  3. Trail will be open from mid morning.. 10am onwards. Marking will be happening though the day so if anyone thinks they creating a sneak line they going to be surprised during racing to find it taped off Stick within the cleared trail and you will be fine though. Start/Finish boards only go up early Saturday morning and no medics are on station during un-official prcatice. Day licences are compulsory for un-official practice. These can be obtained at 11 Karkloof via the honesty box or MySos app (incorporating snapscan and zapper)
  4. After un-official practice on 1 March join us at the Pyga Showroom in Howick for a few brown Fanta's and chat about the trails.. we might even slip in a few tips for racing the Stages the next day. Lions River craft beer on tap and a few snacks .. all Gratis/Free/Mahala. Browse the latest Pyga initiatives and see the Hyrax and Slakline up close 'n personal... better than a double dose of Viagra! 5pm onwards,.. see you there!
  5. https://www.kznmtb.co.za/downloads/race-calendar Ignore the Enduro on 9 March.. thats been incorporated into the Howick Enduro, Calendar will be updated shortly.
  6. Not at the event itself but Midmar Dam and Bush Willow offer camping, Neither are far from Howick.
  7. Droppers are one of the best investments ever You can definitely do all the stages on a hardtail.. no worries there. Know a few guys that pin the Enduro's faster on a hardtail than others on full suss rigs lol. Whilst there is no official practice you will find all stages cleared by Friday mid-morning, If you arrive early enough then just pay a day license and go explore Remember no medics will be out there on Friday dont make that the day to try a double back flip with a twist. Stage starts/finishes also only go out on Saturday morning.. but it will be pretty easy to guess where they are. B lines will be placed around any obstacle that is above average skill. But.. also remember.. faster you go the more skill you need
  8. \ Hey Mphati Plenty B & B options in the area but I would say enquire at 11 Karkloof. The Enduro is hosted from there so easy to roll outta bed and onto the start http://www.11karkloof.co.za/
  9. It is lekker Enduro is now 4 stages, with no lite option, so all age groups can ride the same stages. B lines will be available. The last stage finishes close to the staging venue so its a short pedal back 20km/40km on Sunday includes a lot of the trails that have been re-opened after the timber harvesting .. as well as 2 new singletrack sections

  12. Hey ichnusa tux26 and Trailforks is correct . I have left Alex Alley/Sobiahns Saunter closed as I have not yet had confirmation from Sappi that hauling is finished. There has also been some unscheduled harvesting planned for the gum block around Firetower but as far as i know this has not yet commenced. You are correct in that trailforks and signage dont always correspond 100%. This is usually cause its faster to edit/close/open on trailforks than it is to physically go out and place/remove signage. It can also happen that a trail gets reopened but because its hasnt been fully cleared after the harvesting I leave it closed on trail forks.
  13. Howick MTB Club is hosting an open day on 16 Dec. No Trail for the day .. Free, Mahala, Gratis! 25km MTB (easy/intermediate route) and 7km trail run (easy-ish) on offer. Ride/Run starts at 11 Karkloof at 9am. Set/Marked route is open all day so you can do it as many times as you want. https://web.facebook.com/howickmtb/
  14. FDI update : There are strong NW winds (up 55km/phr) expected from early morning Saturday (04 Aug) through into the evening, with an FDI in the high orange / low red predicted. Expect trails to be closed for the duration of the high FDI. Sunday is predicted to be cool with light rain forecast in the afternoon
  15. URGENT : Sappi harvesting starts today at Dr Keytels area and move to Gums thereafter. The trails and roads around this area/leading into this area (from Tonys Dam up towards Dr Keytels/Middle Rd/from Firetower down/etc) are closed immediately. No access is permitted. Please be aware of activity and hauling in the area and stay away. Hauling route is to the side depot on Middle Rd. Estimated closure period if 3 months. Trail Forks will be updated accordingly.
  16. Apologies for the late reply. If you have still not seen a credit please PM me direct with your details

  19. Trail Update : Home Jerome cleared but remains closed for the next week. Timber being is hauled from that area (F block) starting today/tomorrow till early next week. Hauling route includes top of Middle Road and the whole F block of so that is also closed. Please remain away from this area until all hauling is completed and trails have been re-opened The good news.. this signals almost the end of the major harvesting and we will be re-opening trails as they get repaired/cleared Soon we will have a complete network available again
  20. The event is definitely still on ! Enties are open at http://www.roag.co.za/eventinfo.aspx?EventID=2188 and routes are confirmed. Water tables provisions are being planned at the moment... so, nows your chance to say what YOU would like to snack on during the event. Let me know and I will do my best to have that there. 21. To clarify any confusion and misconceptions regarding the pricing for The Midlands MTB Stage Race. There are two options available when entering the race. The first option costs R10,200 per team of two (R5100 per person), which includes full accommodation, all meals, the race itself and the race village package. A portion of that is being donated to our charity, Bloom, which looks after special needs children. The other two MTB stage races in KZN are R7,400 per person and R6,000 per person, comparing apples with apples. This option is limited to x people, on a first come first serve basis. The second option costs R7,200 per team of two. This does not include accommodation, breakfast and dinner and is convenient for people who live in the area or who would like to make their own accommodation arrangements. We have a variety of fantastic preferred accommodation partners listed on the website to choose from. This option does still include lunch. That’s three days of riding fully supported, awesome seconding tables, race village with free snacks, cold and hot drinks and an awesome chill area. In addition, we are having a daily craft beer festival in Howick. On the Saturday night, we will celebrate our event with a party and great band. In the Goodie Bag, you will find a long sleeve top, a pair of sunglasses and more. We have a surprise thank you gift to give each team at the finish. Everyone on the accommodation package will receive a fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner of the highest standard. I know how important good food is for everyone. Our two-day stage race is R5,700 for a team of two people which does not include the accommodation package option. Don’t forget there is also a two-day trail-run for all age categories. We are putting a huge emphasis on parents doing the race with kids. There is also an two-day stage ride/race with distances of under 30 kms, as well as a 10 km ‘Scout’ race on the Sunday. There really is something for the whole family, so come and spend a long weekend in the Midlands together. The dates 29 June – 1 July are in the school holidays. Solo riders have also now been included. Pricing for this will appear on the entry portal soon.

  23. Please note that un-official Enduro practice is from 1pm on Friday 2 March. You may park at 11 KARKLOOF and ride or walk to the stages.. you may NOT drive into the forests or park your vehicle anywhere on Sappi land. The transition route from 11 KARKLOOF will be marked so just follow the signs
