Some latest news on the Howick Enduro (23/24 Sept) - Skills clinic 23 Sept with some of the best KZN riders acting as coaches. 3 groups.. beginners, intermediate and advanced. The coaches will give you tips and show you techniques on how to ride and tackle the obstacles. Skills will take place on the actual race route so you can put the skills to the test - Skills to be followed by a free-ride/un-official practice session as all race routes will be open. Please note that you may only practice the routes if you have been part of the skills clinic - Its a long weekend so possible get-together on Saturday night... venue/time to be confirmed. Cheap beer/pizza, beer/burger or beer/wors roll option for those who would like to carbo-load for the race the next day - Race day 24 Sept : option of either Enduro full (5 Stages) or Enduro Lite (3 Stages). Both categories have podium positions. Inter-schools option will also be included (riders will still be eligible for individual participation) - 3 new/revised Stages. Combo-entries at a reduced price for skills/full Enduro or skills/Enduro Lite

Trail update : New Track entrance off Middle rd is closed. New Trac can still be accessed from 2zig or Hyslop road. Middle road only open as far as Hug a Tree entrance. Trail Update : WTF is closed for trail maintenance work/line changes and we are putting up signage. Please do not ride the trail as you will come across holes, rock piles and poles along the way ! Trail will be opened as soon as work has been completed (estimated 1 July)

Did you watch any of the Jnrs ? Cam Wright is so damn fast !!! So stoked that you enjoyed the trails !! Yeah the guys ride down into the Quarry Its actually one of the Enduro sections that we use... and will be incorporating onto the Howick Enduro in Sept The shale is loose and soft .. but still some guys pin it down there like mad!

Trail update : Jackle Rd and surrounding area is closed with immediate effect. Harvesting has started and trucks will be using Jackle Rd to haul timber to 6 beer hill loading zone. Signage will be erected today. Trail Forks will be updated today as well.

Hey Bud There is a section being harvested opposite the sawmill that you should remain away from. It isnt part of the Howick Trails network but would have formed part of the alternative route to Karkloof. As you said, best would be to use the tar rd to Dovehouse turnoff. I am updating the trailforks maps today with some new closed areas. Please check again tonight to see what the latest is. Its SA Cup XCO/DH this weekend at Cascades so no club rides ...

Trail closure update : Harvesting will be taking place in Block E23 shorty (in the next week or so) . This block runs between Jackle Rd and Tonys Dam (East to West) and Middle Rd to Firetower (North to Sth). The trails directly affected will be Dr Keytels/Our Secret Trail/Bush Buck/Rushalot/Pines Ext. Trail indirectly affected will be Pines/Karls/Howies/Joes Dib Dop//Jackle Rd/Bradlies/Porcupine Way. Short hauling will also affect some routes, especially Middle Rd. We will be closing all these section in the next week (effective Monday 19th) Trail Forks will be updated accordingly. Please make an effort to check what areas are closed, obey all trail closures and stay away from any current or new harvesting areas

Concurrently, 2 mates are designing and cutting a new up route to Dead Cow Corner area but this will only be finalized towards mid/end of winter (Dead Cow Corner will link you through to WTF eventually)

Trail Update : Please note that harvesting has started opposite the sawmill on the Kwa Wulu road. Although not part of the Howick Trails this area is often used by riders. Please remain away from all harvesting operations.

2nd NEW Enduro Trail now open... Please note its not fully marked yet and that the top section is still being worked on (eg rock garden). It is also planned to extend the start section upwards to a rock ridge but that will only happen over the next 3 weeks or so. In the meantime the trail is open so that lines can form and trail can become better compacted. Work starts this week to clear an alternative route through to link Howick Trails to Karkloof Trails. Timber harvesting has closed the usual routes and in the interests of safety and rider enjoyment we have managed to negotiate an alternative route with private land owners. The route will be ready by the end of the week and maps updated accordingly.

New Enduro trail open for riding...this is the trail that was a special stage at the Howick Enduro in March. It has since been re-worked and some off camber bits improved. Please note that it is not yet marked. https://www.trailforks.com/trails/jelly-tot/ This is the 1st of 3 Enduro specific trails that we are putting in. The next trail will be open in approx. 2 weeks.

Fire season is about to start. Please be aware of the weather conditions and that the trails may be closed on short notice. Hot, dry and windy weather will increase the FDI and access to the trails is strictly forbidden if the FDI is Orange or Red

Best to ask Karkloof.... Howick Trails and Karkloof Trails are 2 separate trail networks and each require separate day licences.

Day licenses & Sappi Indemnity are available at Pyga (Yard 41, Howick - Honestly Box/SnapScan), Howick Cycles (Honestly Box/SnapScan) and Greendale Spar (Parking/Honestly Box/SnapScan). Please note that Day license and Sappi Indemnity is compulsory and that day license is ONLY valid for Howick Trails (not Karkloof Trails).

Hey Dean Firetower area still closed as well as everything North/East of that toward Karkloof Trails (eg Sheeps Pass/Puffaddrer Pass/Christophers/No Balls etc)... in additional 6 beer Hill area also closed as well as parts of Middle Road and the area towards the Karkloof Tar Rd. Signage has been erected where applicable. Best would be to look on https://www.trailforks.com/region/howick-mtb-trails/ for details on closed areas Red area indicates active harvesting areas and is strictly out of bounds to all riders/trail runners/etc There are additional trails that are also closed so please look carefully. The closed trails are indicated with a dash-line on the map and also listed in under the trails section on Trailforks. Some of the Karkloof Trails have also been closed due to harvesting.. best to check with them for details
