  1. Went looking for surf with the family last weekend. Pretty nice out here at Waihi Beach.
  2. Enjoy it guys, hopefully I can make the next one.
  3. Tawa Road... https://www.instagram.com/p/BWeDN2cgCBu
  4. Bit of a cold snap today! Just started hailing here. Currently snowing in Rotorua... https://www.instagram.com/p/BWd6dDAgrg1/
  5. They have rental bikes there if it's just the bike that is missing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. What forecasts are you looking at?
  7. I must admit, the continuous dreary weather, in combination with being pretty busy at work, and injuring myself slightly so that I haven't been able to exercise properly this week, has gotten me a bit down. It has prompted me to research winter holidays on South Pacific islands, and for sure I will be spending some time on a sunny beach come next July. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Spy shot of Hayley commuting...
  9. Those of you getting frustrated by all the rain, I'm selling my Kickr - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1365940886
  10. Nice surfing, kiting and paddleboarding around there!
  11. If you want to head South there's some XC-ish tracks at Hunua Forest. Most are metalled so they hold up well in winter too. @Intern might have some ideas for routes around Silverdale area.
  12. Many intersections in the city allow the Barnes Dance, allowing pedestrians to cross in any direction they choose, since traffic is stopped in all directions.
  13. Not sure how much coverage this has received in SA, but these guys just won the America's Cup for Team New Zealand. Pretty incredible performance, dominating the American team.
  14. I had to pull records for when we moved here. Tried unsuccessfully to do it over email/phone, so ended up going to UNISA offices in Cape Town and requesting them there. I can't remember whether I got them straight away, or if they arrived in the post.
  15. Congrats! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. With a view to a career change, or just for fun? I did a couple years of industrial/organisational psychology way back in my BCom, and found it really interesting (and useful).
  17. Haha, I skipped mentioning the blogs. I think they're all crap. Whaleoil is literal crap, and I find kiwiblog and dailyblog too one-eyed in their respective views, although there is good content mixed in. Mostly I get too annoyed reading either.
  18. IMHO, there are no really good news sources here. The main ones are very tabloid-y (especially online). Have a look at www.nzherald.co.nz and www.stuff.co.nz. For more sober and objective news look at www.rnz.co.nz. And a new recently launched site is www.newsroom.co.nz, so we'll see how they turn out. Before we moved out here I used to listen to RNZ National on the radio when driving around. They have very good news and current affairs shows. For financial news, www.interest.co.nz isn't bad. ETA... Forgot about thespinoff.co.nz which has some really good editorial stuff. Often Auckland-focused too.
  19. Is that a 26" fork? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. +1 on Half Moon Bay or thereabouts (eg. Howick). Also closer to mountain biking at Maraetai
  21. I can do the 9th, although only late morning/lunch. I can't make either of the following two weekends.
  22. LIES! I've seen your Strava, clocking up the kays
  23. Wayne, wrong time of year for Maraetai exploring. Its clay-based and slippery as hell through winter. Also, hills, much bigger ones than Woodhill. And +1 on the ebike. I haven't touched my bike since about January I think. Hayley is on another level, so perhaps she can provide a pushing service for the back-markers.
  24. I'm in. Will need to dust the cobwebs off my bike.
  25. Absolutely buildings are built with earthquakes in mind - http://www.seismicresilience.org.nz/topics/resilient-design/codified-seismic-design/the-building-code/ There are also rules for after an earthquake event for things that building owners must check. Auckland is built on an actual volcanic field, with the last volcano (Rangitoto Island) popping up only 550 years ago. http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/environmentwaste/naturalhazardsemergencies/hazards/Pages/volcanichazards.aspx Tsunamis are also a threat. But we have no snakes, and the largest predator is a possum
