  1. Which model did you buy? I also need to get one, for cutting firewood and the occasional tree Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. @intern - this is your neck of the woods? http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/328256/edgecumbe-evacuated-as-floodwaters-sweep-in
  3. And a whole day will mysteriously vanish when you return
  4. Our water tank is full A few roads closed around here, but the important ones were reopened pretty quickly. Just spotted some blue sky, so I think the worst might have passed us Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. You look remarkably composed for someone that has just had a part of their body removed. Good luck with the recovery.
  6. I think it's part of a deliberate strategy by the government to underfund this, so that private companies can be invited in to "solve" the problem at some point. Same thing happening in the U.K. from what I understand. Good point about age and cover. I'm probably at that age (47) where I should be looking at some private cover :| Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Wayne, that's good to hear. The extent of my ACC claims has been part contributions to my physio bills after mountain bike crashes. They pay half of the $60 session fee.
  8. Congrats! Where are you building?
  9. We had some crazy floods here last week. A one-in-one-hundred-year event apparently, with over 200mm of rain falling in one day. Loads of damage to property and severe disruption to the whole area with roads closed. Many farmers lost stock, as cows, sheep and horses were washed out to sea. One cow had a lucky espape... http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/90491508/cow-moorooned-by-floodwaters-still-high-and-dry The closest mainland is just over 1km away!
  10. You might have heard the beachlands siren. Its a volunteer fire service, so the siren goes whenever there's an emergency. I'm sure there were several call-outs last night.
  11. Over 200mm rain in the last 16 hours. Luckily our place isn't low-lying, but loads of flood damage about this morning. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/90174663/flooding-slips-and-more-heavy-rain-slam-top-of-the-country
  12. Similar story here. Since we've moved closer to the water most of my biking is along the footpath with my daughter on my commuter bike. Paddleboarding is my regular daily activity, and I'm doing windsurfing lessons on the weekends at our local yacht club. The club owns all the gear, so no need to buy my own until I'm at a decent level.
  13. So lucky to call this place home... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I've got some family members. How well ventilated is the container?
  15. Last weekend in Papamoa... Small waves for a longboarding and SUP comp. Great for beginners like me though.
  16. I pictured you drinking these https://www.lewisroadcreamery.co.nz/products/fridge/flavoured-milks#fresh-chocolate
  17. The rental wetsuit I got in Raglan didn't require any advanced trickery like that, it was so stretched. And only a shorty springsuit anyway, so no big deal to get into. My own full suit on the other hand, I'm definitely trying that next time, thanks!
  18. That sucks man. I honestly don't know how you manage the RSA thing. I gave up on SA work within 2 months of arriving here, the time gap was just too disruptive. There will be light at the end of the tunnel though. And hopefully the tunnel isn't too long
  19. Nevermind. Found it. " Selling it because I no longer cycle"
  20. Might be some riders in the Pohutukawa Coast Bike Club interested. I can post there if you have a price in mind Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Not fantastic. Its also clay-based, so gets very slick. In summer it dries out pretty quickly so its good again a day or two after rain, but in winter it needs a week of dry weather before most of the tracks are rideable.
  22. Yikes, no front suspension. I wouldn't ride anything except the dirt roads on that at Maraetai
  23. I've walked a bit at Riverhead. Its nice in summer and a mudbath in winter. It can help to have a local around since there's a lot of paths (https://www.trailforks.com/region/riverhead-forest/). Also out there is the WCRC compound (https://www.trailforks.com/region/west-coast-riders-club/), which is a steep up with several fun downhills. Its a little more resistant to bad weather since many of the tracks are open to the sun. In my backyard (East Auckland) we've got the amazing Maraetai Forest trails (https://www.trailforks.com/region/maraetai-forest/). A mix of XC and more "enduro" focused trails, most of them with a good dose of tech.
  24. Ngaranui Beach at Raglan. Got some surfing lessons
