  1. Ok, riding with the straps much looser gave immediate improvement. I also moved the cleats on the shoes as far back towards the heels as they could - about 12mm. I'm still getting used to this adjustment, but it also has helped. I know that adjustments on a bike should be made in very small amounts, but this new position seems to work for me.. so, thankyou all for the friendly, wise advice gentlemen
  2. I think it would be more likely to discourage guys from doping. Some more real-world facts: my present Free Testosterone level is 189ng/dl. That's dangerously low, according to the Pathcare lab which did the test I've tried the strongest post-steroid protocols - including 'off-label', scheduled drugs, all with their own side effects (one of which is suicidal depression), none paid for by medical aid, for obvious reasons.. cost Rthousands, with legal risks involved in getting and possessing scheduled drugs without a prescription. I'm probably sterile. I have no realistic hope of recovering my natural test production. My sentence will be a reduced quality of life, for the rest of my life. To those who say HRT is ok - I say, try it... Respect your own testicles guys, seriously..
  3. yes, I guess my stance is a bit contradictory. I'm too old to be dogmatic and judge others - made too many mistakes myself.. Is there a difference between the recreational dude, who accepts he's running/riding/weight-lifting only against himself, has no pretense to competitive status, or places, and is only concerned with his own 'personal best' - versus the pro or serious competitor? I think there is. Does anyone care if I finish 10th from last or no. 15011th in the Argus? No one gives a tinker's damn. The pro's - that's a whole higher world than ours, huge stakes involved. I do know once you've entered the PED world, going back is very hard. I suspect that's what happened to Lance. I believe in freedom of choice in all things. Your life, your body, you decide - Karma's unforgiving, and you're paying after all, as I am now.. I've never used PED's for a competitive advantage - as I've tried to explain here, steroids don't help in endurance. Don't know if that makes any sense..
  4. Good idea. Ignorance is the biggest problem. No one who actually knows PED's will talk about it, because of the stigma - but then others don't hear facts, only myths. I accept full responsibility for my own drug use and the consequences which I now face. But, maybe, if there had been some realistic, factual warning back when I was a head-strong youngster, I might have my own testosterone today..
  5. yes. Half-lives of all the roids differ, but generally oil based is longer acting (esterified for that) and much more persistent in the body than water based. Testosterone suspension is water based, very fast acting - 24 hours; testosterone Cypionate is oil based - 12 days. Deca Durabolin aka Nandrolone, is detectable for 18 months in urine. I can't see how any competitive - as in elite - athlete, in any drug-free sport code, can use roids now - inevitable you'll get caught. But it's unbelievably wide-spread outside the pro ranks, and the ignorance, especially amongst young guys, is terrifying
  6. At the time I was struggling to recover from hours of squats every day. I read about steroids in the local library - no internet back then.I got the name of a 'tame' GP from a cop family member, went to him, got about 2cc of yellow oily liquid shot into my deltoid.Looking back, it was probably a mixture of Deca and Testosterone. Put on about 10kg in two months. Then just stopped. The GP had no idea of Post Cycle therapy, the cocktail of drugs you need to take after every steroid cycle, to force your own HPTaxis back to life after being shut down by the roids. I did this a few times, using mixtures of injectables and orals. harder drugs like Nandro-prop. First sign of trouble was the dreaded 'Deca Dick'- impotence due to high prolactin, caused by Deca. Years later now, my test levels are those of a 60 year old.. not easy to train or do a stressful day's work like that.. so now it's blood tests, and the real possibility of needing testosterone replacement for the rest of my life. Which has its own serious side effects. Which is why, despite my son's begging and pleading, I have refused to give him anything more than Creatine and BCAA's, which are safe for long term health.. at least someone benefits from my mistakes
  7. Please don't flame me - I'm offering what I know, own experience, in good faith and for general information. Stanozolol is an old, crude, cheap steroid - Winthrop Pharma, 1962. , I'll never understand why any endurance athlete uses it. It's water-based, 17-alkylated, so very harsh on the liver. There are credible studies showing Winstrol causes the Achillies tendon to become less elastic, increasing risk of rupture under load. It shuts your endogenous test production down hard - and getting that back is tricky unless you know what you're doing. The injections are among the more painful, in my experience, of all the steroids. You need a heavy gauge needle, because the Stanozolol flakes settle out, block thinner needles. Experienced lifters talk of 'Winny joints' - it's known to affect joint lubricity - again, good for a cyclist? I used it many times in my young, ignorant days: it invariably reduced the number of sub-maximal lifts I could do - but it did make my veins more visible...I'm now investigating TRT with an endocrinologist, because I buggered up my bodies natural test production by using anabolics including Stanozolol, in ignorance when I was a kid. Not even my GP at the time knew about Post Cycle therapy - but he gave me the steroids.. school fees..
  8. thanks for all the wise advice - much appreciated guys. Loosening the straps - a lot - has already made a significant improvement. Going to shift the cleats for tonight's ride and see what happens. Thanks again all
  9. Only when I cycle, Hurts across the ball of the foot, where the pressure is when you stand on the pedals, mostly back of the big toe and smallest toe - as in the inside edge and outside edge of the foot. I think a wider pair of shoes is on the cards..
  10. greetings gentlemen, I'm nearly 50, been cycling on/off for many years. My feet have always hurt - usually starting around 50 - 60km on any ride. I've got Look road pedals and shoes, with the three contact points - old, but there's nothing wrong with them, they fit well, after so many years they should.. Being of the old school, which believes that you're not doing anything unless it hurts a bit, I've always just accepted it. But I'm getting on in years, and I've been wondering lately, are sore feet part of cycling? I'd appreciate any thoughts, thanks
  11. I feel that way - I don't train with a helmet, just a big sweat band around my big bald head! For a start it's bloody 38C in the shade here.. it's your life, you get to decide
  12. Yes. More practical & realistic to allow all competitors to use whatever they like. Some will kill themselves doing it - like Simpson did. But I suspect genetics & appropriate training will still prevail over any chemical advantage - we don't know, because we're still bickering about moral issues
  13. yeah, moral fibre.. wish I could agree with you that it's relevant today. The RAF used that expression when pilots couldn't stand combat strain, they were disgraced for 'lack of moral fibre'.. 1) those pilots survived to pro-create (Darwin), 2) does anyone even remember the hapless sods who died - replete with 'moral fibre'... again, I wish the world was as you see it, but I believe in reality. Throw the game open - Froome will still win.. As Connery said in "The Untouchables" : 'what are you prepared to do'..
