  1. A little lockdown build of mine. Gen 1 Momsen STR with a bit of a sprayjob. Cyclocross fork sorted the geometry out quite nicely but yes... I am quite lanky and that seatpost still needs to go up high . Oh, don't need a seatpost clamp as the alloy seems well and truly bonded to the steel frame. Steel weight weenie, now there's an oxymoron! This may have been covered before, but does anyone have experience of those cable to hydraulic disk brake calipers? I'm trying to work out a reasonable (less than R8000) hydraulic braking solution). Any advice would be appreciated.
  2. Here is my Gen 1 STR after a little spray job and gravel conversion... So comfy!
  3. Sjoe... I'm busy converting my V1 STR frame (which was a nice SS gathering dust) to a nice gravel tourer as that seems to be what me and my mates are doing more of these days. Overnight bikepacking tours with 100ish km gravel days. Definitely seems to be something that is gaining popularity, but there are not many options for steel gravel frames locally. I have been riding an alloy Specialized Tri-Cross which I picked up in the UK but it was hard as a goat's knee on anything but a super-smooth surface. Looking forward to the compliance that I know the STR will give me, but would like the option of being able to pick up a slightly lighter, more gravel specific steel frame. In an XL! Just looking for a carbon rigid fork to finish my build, then I'll post a pic.
  4. Is that an eBay fork? How do you find it? I'm looking for a rigid carbon fork and have been battling to find one locally... everyone's out of stock!
  5. A Narrow/Wide ring would obviously be ideal, but they’re hard to come by in the current climate. I’m keen to try a ramped ring if need be with a chain guide/derailleur as a guide.
  6. Hey chaps, I’m doing a 1X gravel build and am looking for a 42T Chainring. I had some after converting to a 34T single ring on an old 2X crank but I tossed them! I’m in Durbs so would prefer local, but happy to pay postage.
  7. Here’s one a mate and I put together this last week. Was a single speed gathering dust in the garage... Momsen Str steel 29er frame 105 11 speed Groupset Carbon rigid fork XT Cranks Brooks saddle Rapide gravel bars
  8. My Kalahari Ferrari, Momsen STR built with bits and pieces in the garage. I can see why lots of peeps say they ride their single speed more than their geared bikes... Too much fun!
  9. Thank you Danger Dassie, that's exactly the kind of feedback I'm after! Will get hold of one from somewhere to try out if possible. Any ideas where I could do that in Durbs? Will phone the listed dealers and see what gives. Ciao
  10. Hmmmmm.... You see that's what I'm thinking. My 2006 khs xc204 (that I paid $180 for) powder coated black gets a lot of attention. Lots of people want to know what it is. Granted, I do have Fox shocks and a decent Wheelset on her but I'm super-comfortable on her and maybe part of the fun is knowing that I put her together for 1/2 or 1/3 of the price of some of the bikes I'm easing past up and down the hills. Just not easing past too many of my mates on 29ers these days but don't have a spare R30k lying around :-( Think the Axis could be my horse...
  11. Hi folks The Axis A10 29er looks like a really good deal. Has anyone actually ridden one? Any idea of weight? I saw some chaps shouting that they'd rather pay more for a 'quality' frame and that the ergonomics might not be that great etc but has anyone actually ridden one? Would appreciate some reliable feedback.
