  1. Grabbing an MTB mostly just for cross training, nothing too major so popped into 2 local shops to see what they have on offer. My pricing bracket was cheap but not rubbish and the GT kakkoram and Merida Big.Nine 300 (2017) where suggested. Spec wise to me they seem pretty similar, so wondering which one is better quality. Most glaring different to me, the less informed is the GT had remote lockout. Price wise: Merida is 9k for the bike factory spec, finish en klaar. GT is 10k, free tubeless conversion, bottle caddy (don't care), sealant and first 2 services. So cash wise I see the GT as the better deal, both come with lifetime warranty on frame.
  2. Ya that they have there for me already, thankfully, being the more important part, good thing I wasn't riding early this week, oak Valley was not as ready for it as I had thought. Sent from my 2014817 using Tapatalk
  3. As I said, I checked the splines and not are flattened, and as for the little pin, its whole purpose for existing is as a last step to keep the crank arm from walking itself off, so yes the tension needs to be properly reapplied, but locking clip also needs to be replaced, and I have already confirmed all of this with my LBS who is ordering in the parts before I take it in tomorrow. Not going to help only fixing half the problem.
  4. So back home now, took a look at the bike, thread looks fine no obvious damage there, but what I did see is there there is no pin on the locking clip itself, so i you look @ https://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Hollowtech-Crank-Arm-Safety/dp/B003RLNCS6, the metal piece sticking out is not there. Personally it does not look to give too much support, but with everything else looking good, that seems to be the most important piece that NOT there.
  5. I have not touched those since I got the bike last year, but it was 2nd hand, it's been in for a full service once since then. It popped off just before the event start, could of been worse, I had just touched it when it fell off so, rather than than on the drive over. Was about 40km before it fell off again, but looks to start slipping around 15-20km. Will see what the bike shop says when I take it in later, hopefully it's not a new crank. Thanks guys.
  6. I was just watching that one now, and there was no crank cap. Looks like LBS for me later.
  7. That was definitely not there, I slipped the arm on, tightened the 2 bolts on the side and that was that.
  8. I can confirm the 2 bolts on the side, but I know nothing about a cap screw, updated OP with a pic, its from the other side, but best I have access too from work so hope its of use.
  9. Hey guys, So this weekend past during the Oak Valley relay, my crank arm (Shimano XT) slipped off twice, was slipping off again but I kept it in check, but it seems simply tightening the bolts is not enough. What is my next step, is there a DIY solution to this, or is this more of a mechanics fix? Thanks
  10. It is apparently now possible to cycle within Paardevlie, I am not sure if it is/will be a peppermint thing, but owing to the fires recently they have allowed True Grit to use a section there for cycling. LINK FYI, no cycling allowed @ helderberg nature reserve.
