  1. Just little info needed pls, my husband and myself are fairly new to mnt biking, we are both in our 60's and wanting to ride the 50km at steyn city, do the men and women ride separately? Are there cut off times and how technical is the trail? 😊
  2. Greetings all. ik Jill looking at having an recumbent trike custom built in the Czech Republic and I’m looking for advice with regards to the importation of the bike into South Africa. Particular, I’m concerned about the duties that need to be paid when the bike is shipped back to South Africa. In addition, they will be vet payable and how would I go about reclaiming thevat There is anybody on this group that has imported in South Africa that can share any advice. I’ll be most grateful. Thank you.
  3. Hi all. Ive decided to buy a mountain bike for fitness but need some help . Im 194 cm , 120 odd kgs , 39 years old. Mostly want to cycle around farm roads and coastal forests on the KZN North Coast. I dont really know what to look out for , but know that I dont want to buy something heavy which I am not going to enjoy . What should I be looking at getting into this. I realise budget is as long as a piece of string but what should I be looking at if I am just starting off , want something relatively affordable, but dont want something heavy and crap which is going to put me off? Appreciate any advice
  4. I am looking for a new dual suspension mountain bike to buy, around 8-9 000 Rand, and am not sure what to buy. I want a good bike, with good parts that I can use for jumping and offroading alike. I have looked around, but am having trouble finding anything. If you want to suggest nything, or if you have a bike to sell, then message me.
  5. I'm looking to buy a dual suspension MTB bike, my budget is around 30-40k mark. Could I get some advise on which bike will be the best bang for buck as I am quite new to the sport. I'm not a serious racer and just ride for fun, but looking for something that can do everything. Thanks in advance!
  6. I found this bike, and on my other forums they said that it was hard to find a good dual suspension for under 25k, but this looks really good! Just asking if it would be worth buying??? https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/662459/titan-skyrim-trail-plus
  7. Hi I’m buying a bike in EL from a seller who doesn’t know how to box etc. any LBS recommendations who can box and I’ll pay for boxing and courier. Thanks 0618488324
  8. I am selling a bike on Bikehub (Merida 1-20 Comp 900D (2012) | Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes | Bike Hub) and I put it for 8k, but I am not sure if people will buy it for that price. It is in good condition, and a very good bike.
  9. Hi Guys, New here, want to sell a bike I got as a gift last year. I have never driven it so everything is brand new. No idea what it's worth, can anyone give me an idea? Pictures attached bellow.
  10. Hi everyone, I'm in dire need of advice please. I'm going to be doing my very first sprint triathlon (20km cycle leg) in a few months time. I currently do not own a bike. I have a R5k budget to buy a bicycle to train with and use on race day. I realize that it is not a lot of money, but I'm not yet sure whether I'll be seriously getting into this as a sport or not. Additionally I'll still have to buy the ancillary biking equipment eg: helmet, bike rack, water bottle cages, etc..... As a result my current thinking is to just get an entry level hardtail mountain bike (29 inch wheels) and just use that, stock standard? I've found the following bike advertised: https://cwcycles.co.za/product/1018157-bike-mtb-ht-alu-avalanche-reflex-2. Is this a worthwhile buy for my needs? If I don't take to the sport, then I just have a cheap bike for recreational use? If I do, then I'll just resell and spend a bit more? I'm very cautious about buying second hand, as I know next to nothing about bikes and wouldn't be able to tell if I'm buying a dud or not. I'm 1,7m tall and weigh 80kg. Am I setting myself up for failure? All advice welcome. Thanks in advance!
  11. Hi everyone, Going to be flying into Milan, Italy and, for obvious reasons, am looking to do some road cycling in that region. Currently trying to figure out whether it makes more sense to rent a bike box and take my own bike, or look to rent a bike locally. I have never flown with a bike before and do not own a bike box. I know there are some Scicon Aerocomfort bike bags available for rent in Cape Town. Appealing given the minimal disassembly required, but am wondering if the lack of a hard shell would place my bike at risk. Any suggestions and/or views regarding travelling abroad with a bike bag/box? Alternatively, anyone perhaps have any leads on decent bike rentals in or around Milan? I've had a Google, but a suggestion based on a good experience would be preferable. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi all. I am new to the cycling game and just purchased a SignalS930. I wanted to find out what vehicle carrier I should look at? are all carriers versatile? any suggestions? thanks
  13. Good morning all! Traveling to USA for some racing:D I wanted to find out if anybody has experience travelling with a bike with British Airways. For some reason when I ask them on the customer service line they aren't much help ... From what I've read, to not have to pay an extra fee, BA expects my luggage and bike bag to weigh under 23kg to not be penalized? I was always under the impression it's 32kg. But now I am not exactly sure... If need be I will obviously have to pay extra. However I don't want to pack so light to hit the weight limit, just to find out that I could have had an extra 10kg of luggage.. Thanks everyone! Mike

  15. I have decided to buy a new titanium road bike and have identified two bikes of interest. the bike will be bought in the UK and someone will bring it in March. The bikes are the Ribble Endurance Ti Disc Sport - https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/ribble-endurance-ti-disc-105-r7100/ And the Holdsworth Helm - https://www.planetx.co.uk/products/holdsworth-helm-sram-force-22-titanium-road-bike. Both bikes cost the same - £1,999 (ZAR 48,000) (The Holdsworth shows the price as £1,659, but when you add UK VAT it is £1,999) The Ribble comes with Shimano 105 2x12 (50/34) and a Mavic Aksium 19 wheelset (heavy at around 1850 grams). The Holdsworth comes with SRAM Force 2x11 (50/34) and a Vision Team 30 wheelset (heavy at around 1900 grams). Except for the different wheelsets, groupsets and seat stays there is little to choose from. Which one of the two will you choose and why?
  16. I’m looking for advice re gravel bike or rather repurposed road bikes that can handle jeep track and not-so-rough terrain. I can’t seem to search the Hub (see attached pic). Which brand of road bike can be modified with a gravel fork and some 750b wheels/ frame that can accommodate the gravel tyres required for a Race to the Sun type of event. I like Cannondale’s as a manufacturer own a two Evo’s, a CAAD 8 ( dedicated Zwift bike and candidate for modification BUT rear clearance can’t even do 28” tyres) and a 2016 Scalpel HM. At 2023 Race to the Sun I was dropped by everyone on a gravel bike as soon as we hit the tar and want to find a brand of bike that I can use as my gravel bike for 2024. I heard murmurs of an older model Specialized Roubaix circa 2012/3 will be fit for purpose. Which light <11kg road frame will get 32-34” (maybe 36”) rear tyre in? Which gravel fork can work well with such a hybrid? I will be fine with v brakes and not necessarily discs and am not fussed with Road or gravel components. We’ll just pray it doesn’t rain this year at 2024 Race to the Sun. I have lots of pretty smooth gravel roads where I live and does not need to be a gravel weapon. My budget is <R15 000.
  17. Hi, I apologise if this is the incorrect place to post on this topic. I need some advice please. I bought a new 2023 Silverback Stride Sport on the 03-02-2024 from Cycle Lab in Lynnwood. Bike was marked down from R12,000 to R8,000. At the time, I thought it was a good deal. I am 49 years old, 85kg, plus bike and gear altogether is about 105kg. Well within the max total of 120kg. After about 32 days the freehub started slipping. Took me a week to diagnose and confirm the issue. Both hubs drone/squeak. Said freehub slips when in 7th, 8th gear on an incline pedalling hard. I ride the bike on dirt roads in and around Bashewa, Pretoria East. Nothing heavy. Took back to CL and I must say the staff were very helpful. Great team. I am awaiting a warranty replacement which is been done as we speak. There are freehub issues on this model, not sure if other Silverback models are affected for those thinking of buying. My main complaint however, is: the bike is advertised on their site with a certain spec. The bike I bought has a different spec. https://www.cyclelab.com/product/1017956-bike-mtb-ht-alu-slvback-stride-sport-my23 Bike is advertised as having: - SRAM chain (PYC chain supplied) - Shimano rotors (Tektro supplied, which is reasonable given the brakes are Tektro) - Shimano TX505 hubs (cannot see a name on FH or RH?) - chain guide (no chain guide supplied) Of all the things, the most upsetting is the hubs. I feel the supplied hubs are simply awful. Besides that, I feel it is false advertising and I have been cheated. I am going to ask Jaco, the store manager next week when I collect the bike, what, if anything can be done. What are my options? Am I over reacting? Do I file a complaint with the CPA? First speak with the store manager and take it from there? I am well aware that manufacturers and hence retailers cover themselves with the typical legal jargon of "specifications are subject to change without prior notice" and "images are for illustrative purposes only". Sigh. Thank you.
  18. Hello there, I'm venturing into the world of road biking for the first time. I've been a cyclist for most of my life, starting with a Giant MTB and then transitioning to a Scott. Initially, I considered buying a second-hand bike to stay within my budget of R10K, but I struggled to find the right size (L). After seeking advice, I learned that a good aluminum frame with quality calipers would be a fantastic choice within my price range. Here are the road bikes that have caught my eye, and I'm eager to hear any advice or pitfalls you may have encountered: GIANT Contend 1 (2022) Scott Speedster 30 (2022) GIANT Contend 3 (2018) MERIDA Scultura 400 Looking forward to your insights!
  19. Hi everyone, I'm a budget biker if there is such a thing. I'm a gravel biker and I in the market for a new bike. I've had my Avalanche estrada gravel for years very good machine. But I recently noticed the Avalanche dust gravel. I can't find any reviews on it. Does anyone own one or riden one to give advice if this is a good bike or not?
  20. Question: Should Bike Hubbers that incorrectly spell Campagnolo be banned for a period of 31 days? 🤓🤭✍️….
  21. I need a 29er. Descent components. Roxshox Air and lockout.
  22. Hi all, I'm looking to insure my bike and was looking for any advice on who would be the best insurance to look at? Price R +- 30 000 Regards Cole
  23. I'm busy collect as much info about what bike to buy, but I'm totally confused due to info overload and do not know what to focus on. I'm 169cm and inseam is 79cm. I think I will buy a medium - not sure. I have approx R15k to buy a bike. There are so many features to compare and I do not know what's the best. I totally new in bike riding. We need to use it for leisure - riding on some dirt roads and around in the neighbourhood. Maybe later we will also join a group, but at first I want to settle in biking riding. I want to buy a 29er hardtail, (that's all that I'm sure about). But what other features should one consider, like: What shocks (air or coil?) : What size - small or medium? Type of brakes? Is a TREK Marlin 7 a good buy for R13000 on sale? I'm in the Bloem area and would also consider a good second hand bike, but afraid that I might waste my money. I will appreciate some advice!!
  24. good day all. Firstly I've posted my Cannondale f900 on this site to try and sell. i have no knowledge of what its worth now currently? all i know is i got it roughly 15 years ago and i used it once and it has been in the garage ever since .... I was away from home Durbanville Western Cape 18 years ago and have decided to come back in hope for a better life. so I'm urgently looking for a buyer for this bike just to keep me and my family going. I apologise for the inconvenience of now posting onto forums etc, but i don't trust market place after being scammed. Anyone's expertise and knowledge on the sale of this bike would be greatly appreciated. I know its not worth what we paid so many years ago. i feel at least here i wont get taken advantage of due to me not having the necessary knowledge on this particular bike and its current value. the bike is in mint condition just the tyres need to be pumped up and fitted and its good to go. if any good person could steer me in the cot direction for a quick sale today I would appreciate it
  25. Hi al, Thought I would cover this in one, as an old weekend cyclist that will start dabbling in a bit of racing (non-competitive) this year. I currently have a Wahoo Element Bolt, and on the trails with the older eyes I now feel the screen is getting a bitt small to see and navigate when riding. What would be the recommended bike computer now with a decent size screen and color? Then for riding, and I have looked, there are zillions of drinks, what should I drink during my rides, and these would vary from 25-50km rides for now to keep hydrated but also fuelled during the ride? Thanks
