  1. Thanks @Bicycle Yard Zarras WESTERN CAPE I will try the tip in the video! Hopefully, it's just in need of a small adjustment. If so, I'm sure I can also figure out the seat adjustment. Will keep you all posted regarding that issue
  2. Thank you so much for the insights! I will definitely check out the apps you recommended and adjust the saddle. I could feel on the test ride that I might need to move it forward slightly. The seat is quite tight so I will need some tools to move it. Sadly, there appears to be something wrong with my gears so I need to take this in to someone to have a look at. I should have been more thorough in my checks initially. The gears won't shift up after gear 4 or 5 so I think a cable might need to be replaced or something. Hopefully won't set me back much 😕
  3. Thank you so much! Haha, sarcasm and trolls - as with any great platform.
  4. Some pics of my new friend for those who were interested. No action shots or anything yet ðŸĪŠ
  5. Thanks, guys. I actually have two lights that came with the bike but the batteries are both flat. I will have a look online as well. I have a helmet. I've been looking out for bike gloves and some tights also but I know tights and pants can be quite expensive. I have one cheap pair of shorts with a chamois and a pair of Merrell shorts too in the meanwhile.
  6. @TheoG Thank you so much! 😊 I will post some later on after work. I intend to take it for a decent ride today, so will snap a few pics.
  7. To everyone who was interested in my bike-buying journey. I ended up purchasing the Scott Aspect 930 bike. Before going to see it I had some concerns about the size of the frame but once I adjusted the seat slightly and had a test ride it seemed to be a good fit. Thanks again to everyone for their insights and advice. Maybe I will see some of you at future events! Have a good week
  8. Look, I would like to try my hand at some trails but also practice on the road. I actually considered entering the 42km CTCT race this year but I decided to train and then consider next year's CTCT. Maybe by then, I will feel ready to do the full 109km. I'm going to have a look at the Scott Aspect 930 29" bike that @Theunissa posted above on Sunday and if that's not suitable (as it's a small frame bike; although from the Scott site, the Small and Medium frames have rider height overlap) I will perhaps take @Bicycle Yard Zarras WESTERN CAPE up on his offer. But yeah, I am cautious of making the wrong choice, especially since buying a bike is a fairly sizeable expense. I will update the thread if I end up taking the Scott. It seems to be in a really good condition from the pics.
  9. Thank you for your willingness to help! I'll let you know about the Langebaan thing 😄
  10. That's good to know. I really appreciate the insight from both of them. I think I'll for sure pop by Zarras if I don't come right with a second hand private sale.
  11. I got in contact with this guy. I will have a look at it over the weekend and see if the small is suitable.
  12. Thank you everyone for your responses. 🙌 There are so many new ones that it would take me quite some time to personally message everyone. You've all given me a lot to think about. As far as the 26 or 29 debacle I think I'm okay to try both depending on what I find. Thank you to those that sent me advice, adverts and also just their own experiences and choices regarding preferred specs. I think I have a good idea of what to look for. And I'll be reaching out to folks on here for more advice in the future. Initially, making this post I figured no one would bother to respond to it, but I've been surprised at all the warmth and willingness to help. So, thanks for being kind to a brainless noob like me! 😊
  13. Hey! Thanks for your detailed response. I have been thinking about having a bike built up by you and I really do appreciate your offer but I have some safety concerns since the theft and I think a brand new bike would be amazing but it would probably kill me if someone were to steal that as I'd be far more attached to it. Maybe that's irrational of me. But thank you for all your advice and I'm definitely keeping 26" as well as 27.5 bikes in my scope with regard to shopping around. . If I really find nothing that tickles my fancy after looking around I will reconsider your offer. I've been really pleasantly surprised by the reception and willingness to assist from people on this forum. But especially you, so thank you so much for the warm welcome.
