  1. Last week I had a chat to some random okes at Blackhill and i heard rumors about riders taking precaution by arming themselves for rides. It seems people are gatvol of being targeted. So how many people actually do this?
  2. So yesterday on my way home from a nice Sunday ride at giba I came across this in Stockville Road : Apparently a chap was Cycling along Stockville road when 3 guys tried to rob him. He defended himself with a pocket knife of some sort. Fortunately for him in this situation he must have known how to protect himself. http://policepicsandclips.com/2016/08/28/958/ "Earlier this morning members from Durban Search and Rescue were called out to Giba gorge to conduct and Rescue and a BodyRecovery with Netcare911 Rescue and the SAPS AIRWING. Three African male suspects attempted to Rob a complainant at the Giba gorge business park. The complainant defended himself with an edged weapon. Two of the suspects were injured and all three suspects fled. The complainant gave chase and while in pursuit of the suspects came across the deceased susppect who had tried to rob him. He then came across the 2nd suspect further away in critical condition. SAPS and Netcare911 Rescue were called to the scene where upon the Airwing was activated to Casevac the critical patient out of the Gorge to the awaiting ambulance on the road. The deceased suspect was recovered and flown to the roadway. The injured suspect is in surgery at RK Khan presently." Guys be careful on that road into giba, if any one has more info on this please share .
  3. A few months back there was a newspaper article in the Cape Times about a bikejacking in Somerset West, that was caught on the cyclist GoPro. I even checked out the video of the robbery as uploaded on YouTube. Well today I attended Somerset West Regional court and witnessed two of the perpetrators sentencing. Magistrate Cannon had the following to say to the accused: "Your cowardice act have effects on many who enjoy the sports of cycling, who now has it in their minds that they are easy targets when enjoying their sport. You have thereby infringed on the constitutional right to freedom of movement of many...you need to be removed from society...Society expect it. The court cannot ignore the reasonable expectation of society." They were both sentenced effectively to 11 years direct imprisonment for the robbery. The gunslinger was given a further sentence of 3 years direct imprisonment for possession of a firearm without being licenced. Just thought this forum could get some good news.
  4. Malcolm Fox was bikejacked at gunpoint during a ride in Somerset West on Saturday, 31 May 2014. Unbeknownst to the thieves the events were all captured on his GoPro and the footage used as evidence against them. Click here to view the article
