I think it was disproven when they showed Schumacher was tapping on the throttle at something like 10 taps a second.

It sound rediculous, but Michael Flatley had recorded 28 taps per second while doing his Irish dance thing.

I have no idea who tried to count them.

I don't think it was proven or disproven that they used an illegal TC system. What was proven is they had such an illegal system during the season and it was available to them at any time. It was just not proven that they used it in competition. That said, its common belief that beneton did indeed run such a system in 94.

 

The 10 taps a second story sounds like a good smokescreen though!

On the TC topic, it's amazing how these guys can actually ride these cars without TC! I am not sure as to the exact figure, but I think it was either 3 or 5 mm of travel... that IT on the F1 throttle (that figure is from the late 90's, not sure what it is now - and it was on Schumacher's car, but presuming it's the same for everyone). You play with a car weighing next to nothing and all that power, at times in the wet... with that amount of throttle play.

 

As for the Benetton TC saga - it was investigated and they could find no proof. They did find the whole filter on the refueling rig trick, though.

 

94...? Sorry, that will only be remembered for one thing. Sadly all the controversy (some rather ridiculous) and Schumacher's first championship pales to the events of Imola.

Ja i think its more like 30 to 40mm now (not sure baout back then). but agree - great skill and amazing we don't see more spins in the wet. We forget how good these guys are! Edited by dracs

Much like cycling, every Formula 1 team is and always has been cheating... It's just about not cheating enough to get caught. A friend of mine used to be a big shot at Honda and used to tell of many a story about how they "pushed the limits".

Nope, for it to be called cheating, you have to be the one interpreting it "better". It's called cheating only if you've done that, somebody else spots it, alerts the law-makers and the law-makers then abide by them, and not you. Otherwise it's spotting a loop-hole and clever engineering.

 

Cue double diffusers, slightly different barge boards.... the list is endless!

 

That said, I think these rules are rubbish and they should be allowed to go and build the fastest car within safety params. That's what it used to be about. Fast car, fast driver, risk and reward. Now there's grid penalties being handed out for absurd reasons.

HAHA yes... that amongst others.

 

Another "trick" in the days of smaller fuel tanks and refueling, was for the teams to freeze fuel in order to exceed the maximum fuel limit. Then there have been the TC controversies (as mentioned in this thread) as well as exhaust exit positioning scandals, flexing wings and many many more...

 

Ahh and yet much like cycling with it's doping flaws, I love the sport.

I was more impressed that with Alonso after he moved from 6th to 2nd in a race where very few other drivers managed even one overtake.

He absolutely kicked butt - emphatically. Alonso did well to get up to second, really great drive that!

 

Not to throw away Bottas in qualifying and Vergne dragging a TR up to 6th. And Di Resta for coming through from 17th could have received some more TV coverage. In fact, both Force India's looked good...

 

Shocking to hear of the passing of the marshall, that is really bad.

Shame really sad about the death of a marshal. It occurred after the race when he was run over by a mobile crane while they were moving Gutierrez's Sauber.
