dropout interchangability: giant trance & xtc

(the derrailleur hanger - don't know if that's the correct term?)

 

while packing for trans lesotho, i found the dropout for the trance and the xtc looks the same - at least, i can't tell the difference. must i look any closer to make sure that i take the correct one, or are they really interchangable? or must i just take both to make sure i have one that fits when i need it?

 

i tried to compare the dropouts with what's on the bike at the moment, but it's difficult to see differences with the derrailleur on the bike.

 

anyone tried to fit the one's hangar on the other one?

 

the trance is 2008, xtc is 2010.

In absence of anyone trying out for real, see if the parts code for the two bikes are the same on replacement hangars. Try CRC for the WMD brand, or www.northshorebillet.com , and see if the same part fits both.

 

I had to do this for a relatively obscure bike with no local agents to assist, the North Shore Billet was the best way forward, then confirmed with the CRC site.

Giant only uses two main dropouts on 90% of their MTB bikes (Reign X and Glory have their own). We code them as DR-01, which fits on the outside of the frame (all lower to mid end MTBs and older model XTC) and DR-15, which fits on the inside of the frame (Maestro and newer XTC range).

 

These are availible from any good bike shop and should not be more than R90. Dr-15 is even avialible in colours Green, Purple, Red and Grey.
