Hi there

I am new to the forum and just want to touch base with some people that use the bicycle lane from Table View to Cape Town on a regular basis. I've seen plenty of complaints and comments around thorns and I certainly don't want to be fixing punctures on a weekly basis, then I may as well continue to use my motorcycle.

My primary reason for cycling is for the exercise and ecco friendlinessand saving money, but if I need to replace tires or fix punctures the little money I'll be saving by not using my motorcycle will be lost.

Is there any consensus on the state of the road and how often the lane is cleared? I am riding a road bike but will be getting a mountain bike as this seems to be the better option for commuting.

Thanks

Werner

Cycle it everyday. The thorns come and go some days loads out some days nothing luck of the draw. On my way back today I see they tearing up the cycle lane in parden isleand just befor the bridge for some reason. easier to ride down the bus lane there. But also watch out TAXIS have found that they can use the bus lane to by pass some traffic so are using it.

Thanks for the replies. I used the lane today and did not have an issue, aside for my back wheel coming off which caused a bit of a wipe... but all good though. Will certainly keep at it.

The best way to fix this thorny issue is to ride a miuntain bike fitted with tubeless tyres and slime - on a bad day my record is 9 front 5 back on the way to work - still no flat though !

I second the MTB with a tubeless setup, I ride this route daily and can't remember the last time I fixed a flat.

The MTB will also be handy in town to get out of the way of traffic and making use of alternative routes you would not be able to access on a roadie bike.

I rode into town from the old Castle Brewery yesterday at about 5:15 pm. Two complete tjops - coming back from town riding in the BRT lane when there's a whole empty cycle path right next to them. So there's the bus hooting and trying to squeeze past ...

It's not like either of them were doing any speed either - even then, you can get quite a pace going on the path.

So to the roadie in his red-and-white outfit, and the MTBer (neither of whom were inclined to greet in any way): Gentlemen, you're complete and utter tjops.

that I definitely can't do on my road bike..... or won't try at least. might come short and have a hoard of them trying to kill me

Only ISSUE at the moment is the LEFT OVER glass remains from a recent Car Accident.

Traveling to Table View.

@ second intersection after Boundary road/ Bridge.

Removed the shattered Windsreen from the Lane, still alot of glass left behind.

Seperate issue.

Some builder went and LEFT standard size wood NAILS, over a 100 meter stretch. In same area.

NAILS were ALL picked up and Kept.
