I still need my granny.

24T small ring upfront, and 36T big ring at the back. Still struggling up the really steep climbs. But I think fitness/strength might be the problem, rather than gearing. Should maybe lose 5kg too.. should help ;)

I am using XTR 2 x 10 with a 42/30 set-up infront and 11/36 at the back. The 30/36 ratio is a bit harder than a conventional 22/34 set-up, but I have never needed the latter, so it was pointless going smaller on the front. Time will however tell if I will miss the granny, but I have other options....just push the bloody bike up the hill, if pro's can do it, why can't I?

I run 2 x 9, 40/28 and 11-34 back and do xc and marathon on these, could maybe have used a 40/26 at the SA Champs with those very steep climbs but ...
