Another one today...

To cross busy roads on my bike, I try to use the pedestrian crossing at a Traffic Light - wait for the green man generally on the pavement then proceed when its my turn (Not that traffic lights mean anything in this place)

I often cross Louis Botha in Jhb just above King Edward after climbing the hill, and I am used to the taxis gaping it, that is they will fly through just after the light turns red for them. So you can never take it for granted to start crossing the road even if its green for you, and there is a vehicle approaching. Just as well I think like this because today, there I was patiently waiting my turn to cross. Traffic was down being Easter Friday, but here comes a Toyota Land Cruiser as the light turns green for me. This guy was probably a 100m away, and I almost started to cross, assuming he would stop. But he didn't.

Straight through the light at possibly 70 km/h. Crazy. Not that race matters, but this was a posh white guy.

And this is all whilst the Metro cops lounge up the road harassing law abiding motorists for minor offences.
