My mavic carbone slr's came with a spacer for between the cassette and hub and my dura ace cassette also comes with a spacer. Do I use both of these spacers? It will leave quite a gap between the hub and cassette.

I'm also wondering how tight should the cassette lockring be?

Thanks

Normally for Shimano you just use the one spacer that comes with the cassette. I've never seen two...

Again for Shimano, the lockring says it should be torqued to 40Nm.

I recently came across a Mavic wheel that wouldn't work with just one spacer.

It is easy to see. If you tighten the lockring and the sprockets still rattle around, you need a spacer.

IIRC, some Shimano cassettes come with what appears to be a spacer but it actually isn't. It is a steel washer. If you look at the back of the cassette, you'll see the aluminium spider is recessed and the insertion of the spacer/washer makes it flush. I assume this washer is to prevent fretting damage between the alu spider and steel freehub body.

Using these cassettes on freehubs that require a spacer will clearly require 2 "spacers".

I have a 10 speed specific freebody that can not take a spacer, it just wont fit over the freebody ... I know this doesnt help you but I thought it was interesting
