Myself and some good mates tackled the 550Km, 6-day Ride to Rhodes last week.

Herewith a 6 minute overview of day 1:

I will post the following days as I build the videos - sheesh it takes time!

Guy - are you doing Sani2c

No GrantC, but perhaps one day!

As a roadie, I'm still trying to get my adrenaline down from some of the downhills on day 4 that were probably more suited to a mountain goat! They were quite thrilling though - about 20 minutes of rocky downhill -I think I could become addicted! The hardcore MTBers, meaning everyone else with me, reckoned that those slopes are exactly what they live for! Unfortunately, I was too busy trying to stay tyre-side-down over those rocks to switch on the video at that point sad.gif

Guy - get it on your bucket list.

See you in Paris, unless you join Dave and I for the ride down to Durbs.

Planned route is:

Lido - Reitz (+- 220km)

Reitz - Escourt (+- 250km)

Escourt - Beachfron (+- 210km)

Total 680 (thinking of also starting at Eddies place to bump day 1 up to 250ish.

When did you do it Grant? Apparently it's hard, if not impossible to get in?

PS when's your ride?

Guy

will be doing my 6th this year

The ride will be mid july - last big one before we go over (don't want to kill ourselves, hence 3 days instead of 2).

Starting to book flights and accom now

6th as a roadie? Not too shabby!

Cool, let me know the date of the ride - it would be great to join you if it works out!

Yep, you're a guaranteed in - I have to wait for Jun 15 to see if I'm even in, after all that work! Then I'll book flights etc!

Bummer

Entry opens for Dave & I on Sunday

Based on 2007 "other entrants" and allowable slots this year for "others" odds are good that you will get in as well.

Aah, the benefits of having started all this last year!

WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO go Guy !!!

What awesome vids!

The only thing that scares me with the FC is the navigation .... driving around CT at night in the rain and cold, I often wonder how I will handle being lost, wet, cold, hungry and alone. Yea the navigation scares me alot!

Hey thanks Slowbee!

My beginner video skills ought to improve soon! I looked at one today and those subtitles are too big! I will fix that and post HQ versions sometime!

Yep, navigation is tricky, especially in the forests where everything grows over so quickly. I think the best thing is to take landmarks as waymarkers, like in the army, instead of relying on the narratives in the overgrown sections, which can be quite innacurate, especially when you're lost smile.gif! And of course, there's nothing like simply keeping your wits about you, and making sure you've always got enough water and food!

Anyway, I hope I can get to day4 to day6 this weekend! To me day4 was outta this world, sleeping in deep rural Xhosa huts in the village of Vuvu... But wait for the pics!

cheers
