Hi there,

I have a Scott Spark 30 full carbon 2010. It weighs 700g more than my Santa Cruse Tall Boy 29er!!!

Where do I start to drop a kilo or so? she weighs 13.2kg. Standard spec as per Scott website.

SLX/XT groupo, DT Swiss XR 30 wheelset. Maxxis LUST tyres. Rock Shock Reba SL fork. 120mm.

Dont want to spend huge mulla's.

Where is the most effective place to start?

looking at that photo think maybe you could lose a kg or 10 before you start fiddling with the bike

I have a scott spark 30. Got mine down to 11.2 kg with tubless and pedals. The Scott spark 30 on the website is 11.30kg but thats without pedals and tubless.

Mine I have ritchey wcs stem and a ritchy superlogic riser bar. Got full xtr except front derailer and pedals which is xt. Gobi xm Kium saddle. With a SID fork. With Eastons ea 90 xc wheels. This was a frame that I built up.

its amazing it just lost 1kg by using the other bathroom scale!! sorry that was doff, it weighs 12.2kg,s not 13.2 scale was incorrect.

Just lost another 600grams with egg beater pedals and protection tyres instead of full UST.

Down to 11.7 by spending only R1200.00.

Thanks to all for your comments, its an awesome bike, very stiff and makes me look a lot better on the climbs with the twin lock system!!

11.2kg for a dual is quite light, my anthemX is thereabout and I have changed quite a lot... but then again, it is alloy...

Awesome bike dude!

Paid R15000 for the frame but normally you can only buy the top of the range model. My LBS strippped a spark 30 they had in stock as I was waiting to long for a warranty repair on my GT frame. Could drop some more with a carbon seat post.

You can save a futher 450g is you use a DT Swiss XTC 100 carbon front fork. Going to cost you R9k though.

My Large framed bike (Scott Spark 30 2010) weighs in at exactly 11kg. Changed all the bolts to shorter versions, XT Tubeless wheels, got a carbon seat post, omitted the shock adjustment on the handlebars - (I ride only with full suspension), changed the handlebar grips to tape and put lightweight eggbeaters on. Some delicate machining of clamps and brackets also helps.

Oh, and I weigh my bike on a Masskot Scale (Certified: "Legal for Trade").

My Alu Spark 50 comes in at 11.9Kg's on a digital Park Tool scale.

XT/XTR Groupset.

DT Swiss 420SL wheelset with foldable maxxis tekkies.

Ritchey WCS Carbon H/Bar & Seatpost with WCS wet black stem( still need to fit).

Selle Italia SL saddle.

Reba Race fork.

Juicy 3.5 brakes.

Next big weight reduction would be a carbon frame like an RC....

That will probably land me under 10kg's.drool.gif

Not really anything else that will give a substantial weight difference.

Any suggestions?
