I feel that people are starting to move away from hub based power measuring units and going for crank systems such as SRM and Quarq, regardless that they are more expensive. Just easier to manage since it forms part for frame and not the wheelset. Powertaps will evently become defunct when pricing improves and new pedal power systems enter the market.

I have to agree with Kent. Think in 24 months Powertap as it looks today will be dead. There are just too many issues with Powertap wheels. People like to change wheels, have spare ones available, dedicate some to training, some to racing etc etc.

Further, the PowerTap hub itself is of dubious quality. Too many engineering mistakes to make it reliable and durable.

The large flange of the hub causes wheelbuilding issues that are not well understood by the wheelbuilding fraternity at large and hence, have a reputation for poor reliabiliy.

On top of this, putting the load sensors in the crank or pedals just makes so much more sense.

I very much Disagree with this Comment.SRM's Pricing is way beyond the pricing of Power Taps. PowerTap is the most effective power device to use for training and racing with the simplisity of changing the wheel. I can Train My TT's and then go for a ride on my road bike and still can see my data.

NOW, If im Training with my TT bike that with a SRM and tomorrow i would like to go train on my Road bike i would EITHER have to change the cranks or have two sets of SRM's UMMMMMMMM pricing....... Its a no Brainer!! Quarq has not been around long enough to to stand on steady feet as where by Power Tap and SRM has been around for YEARS!!!!

Question is, "Is there enough DATA and BACKUP and TRIAL AND ERRORs done with all the new Power Meters on the market?"

What issues are there exactly with Powertap?? I have had mine for 12 years now and have not had one problem with mine?

Everyone i know that ownes a Power Tap have never had issues reagarding the Tap. The Agents are very affective as to warranty repairs and so on, They never had a story when my friends hub was under reading, the Agents Replaced the Whole HUB.

In My oppinion i would call that great service and after sales!!
