Big up to Pottie. He finished up in 54th spot ahead of some very high profile riders. Someone PLEASE get this guy on a pro team.

Ja. Amped for all the boys trying to break in there. Tim's really kicking up a gear. It's amazing that SA produces so many top class riders despite our tiny talent pool.

Anyone now why Lehikoinen was disqualified?

I saw an interview with Emmeline Ragot, who was also disqualified, and she feels hers was an unfair decision because only her hand broke the tape - not the rest of her or her bike??

Ya and its amazing that the CSA dont give more funding to MTB rather than Road as look at whats been produced over the years!

Minnaar = 1x world champion

3x World Cup Champion

Stander = 1x Under 23 World Champion

1x Under 23 World Cup Champion

Candice Neethling = 3rd @ Junior World Champs

(cant remember any others off hand)

Would be really interesting to see the spread of TOP riders (guys who have won World Medals in their respective disciplines ... i think Track would come out on top and MTB would be close behind

As far as i heard matti crashed and went ouside the course and didnt enter back where he left teh course so was disqualified. Same as Emmeline (although her little skirmish with the tape seems to be more minor) but as she went around a stake (supposedly) she was deemed to have re-entered the course at a different point

Ah what a downer - She would have certainly placed well.

And Matti must be rather gutted, I really like his style and always hope for a good placing...

*Edit

Just checked and Matti was lying 15th overall after Ft Bill!

And Ragot 4th!

But I guess that is the name of the game - and they know it!

NIge: I didnt get to see Lehikoinen's bail, neither my babe Emmeline's, but was it a steep section of track where they bailed and had to rejoin lower down or what?

Posted

i donno dude - both were off camera so was probably near the top as we say most of the bottom woods on the Freecaster edit.

Shame - some dude binned it in the slop in that bombhole where they had that little uphill onto that insane root section. The oak slipped down the bank in the mud and couldnt get back up to rejoin in the same place cus of the mud! hahahahaha

ok. reason i asked was, because last year, a top riding binned it, rolled to the bottom, and then rejoined obviosly at point lower than where he exited. This was during qualis. It was quite the debate whether he should've been allowed to race or be DQ'd. It was the eagled one IIRC, Aaron Gwin. He was allowed to race.

Now if the same thing happened to Matti or Emmeline, why were they DQd? granted, i'm asking even though i have a distinct lack of fact around their respective crashes.

ya there has been a rule change between last year and this year! It was never really enforced last year that if you exited the track you had to rejoin at the same point.

Case-in-point would be Peaty in 2010 Maribor ... Freecaster shows him get all out of shape in the rock garden and he slides off course through the tape - AROUND A POLE - and joins again as he didnt actually crash! - he didnt get DQd .... neither did Hill who binned it just after the rocks into the next section where he went off around a tree and rejoined below the tree - also no DQ.

It was these events that prompted the UCI to make the ruling more stringent as in both cases i think the riders podiumed still! Even though they went off course.

They serent cheating as they OBVIOUSLY lost time ... but the course CANNOT BE CUT!

Yeah, they have to draw the line somewhere..

I remember back in the day at OOOOLD Worlds View there was a huge argument at a race and it was even paused for a while (If I remember correctly) because some of the riders where jumping over a right hander into a chute near the top.

The course designer was not too happy with this and jammed sticks into the ground right where they where jumping DURING THE RACE, causing major disagreements with riders and officials etc.....

But this would have not posed a problem if the course had been clearly taped at that point and laws like these put into place.

The sport is still growing (like a rebellious teenager) and as it progresses so the rules have to evolve to keep it fair and safe - Just like F1.

It is still a downer though when riders are DQ'd due to a minor course break.

Sometimes it is impossible to enter where you left - as with that dude who binned it in the bombhole, but it is the name of the game....

DUDE - it is PERFECTLY legal to jump over tape or poles - as long as your wheels are not on the ground. I was one of the guys jumping that gap you are refering to! **** that was a fast line! If they didnt want us doing that the course should have been marked with pvc pegs high enough that you couldnt jump across it - or you use catch netting!

Greg was doing that in teh corkscrew above DR EVIL on teh WC track and i had to change the track slightly to stop him doing it.
