Noticed quite a bit of rust on my chain (which must've been from high humidity) and quickly lubricated it. Not sure when last I had done that but its been weeks. When I went riding this morning the chain kept slipping and the RR made a continuous noise in most gears as if its not properly engaged. It's got about 2000kms on it right now and its a dura-ace. Did the chain maybe stretch with the lubrication and am I going to stuff up the cassette as well?

Did you degrease and clean the chain properly before applying the lube? Surface rust on a 2000 - odd km chain should not affect the performance, but sticky sh*t between the rollers could cause poor shifting. Remove, clean, relube and test!

Did the chain stretch from the lubrication, you ask?

The answer is no.

I can't figure out what a RR is...perhaps the sound the grinding chain made?

You don't say how badly it rusted. One way to test is to remove the chain. Hold a screwdriver horizontally and pull the chain vertically over it. See if each link rolls nicely. A sticky link will reveal itself. Work some oil into it and refit.

Cosmetic rust on the plates have no affect on a chain's performance. A sticky chain also has no effect on shifting - unless it is so badly rusted that it is no longer sideways flexible.
