Event Name: Beaulieu Prep Winter MTB Cycle Challenge
When: 9 June 2012
Where: Kyalami, Beaulieu Estate, Beaulieu Nature Reserve, Gauteng
Category: MTB

This is the 3rd year that this event will be running and caters for the needs of the entire family and all schools willing to take up the challenge.

The focus this year will be on creating an opportunity for all to take part in either the 45km, 14.5km, 4.5km or 2km events.

The 14.5km had been designed specifically for novice to intermediate riders and all competing school teams. The 45km is for the more experienced and fitter rider which promises to be even better than last year, with loads of new flowing single track cutting across some of the most beautiful farms in the area.

The race will start at the Beaulieu Nature Reserve and will finish at Beaulieu Pre School in Beaulieu Estate, just North of Joburg. The MTB challenge coincides with Beaulieu Prep Family Fun day and it is guaranteed to keep the kids occupied with plenty of entertainment and piles to eat and drink after the race so we do encourage you to bring your whole family along and enjoy the day even if you will not be riding.

All proceeds go towards the advancement of education at Beaulieu Prep school!

Congratulations to all the cyclists and supporters who braved the weather and took part in the 3rd Beaulieu Mountain bike Cycle Challenge. Your contribution to raising funds for the school and bringing back cycling to the Kyalami community is really appreciated.

Unfortunately, the wind and weather played havoc with some of our signage and the brains of some of the marshals and I believe that some of the 45km participants ended up doing 60km. In the end everyone got home safely and I'm sure enjoyed the race.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to the local community for allowing the race to traverse their bridle paths and pass over their properties. Thank you to the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum, the Mounted River Rangers, ADT, Peace Force and Scorpion Trail Security for keeping the cyclists safe along the entire route. Thank you also to all the volunteers and Entry Time for being so professional and assisting with the administration of the entries, and race registrations.

Please send feedback, good and bad so that we can improve on next years event.

Yes, thanks for a great event. A big improvement compared to the 1st event I took part in 2 years ago. The single loop route was challenging, not easy at all, lots of climbing and single track. Heard about some going astray, I did not have difficulties in following the route, only 1 missed turn that was quickly rectified. measured 43km on my Garmin.

What was amusing was the very first school manned water table - 1.5 km from the start hahaha, they certainly made sure all were well hydrated!

Enjoyed it thoroughly and will be back. Pity results are not tabled, it may be a good idea to get a timing system in for the next one.
