Saddle height is of course theory and a general rule of thumb. Something completely different could work for you.

In theory you are right but in theory everybody has exactly the same "crotch to lower back" angle (for want of a better description). In reality there is variation in humans and to compensate for that variation we vary the angle of the saddle.

Flat is a great place to start but everybody should mess with the angle (only a few degrees) to find out what works best and is most comfortable for them...

hi there,

i copied the measurements across, pedal to saddle, saddle to stem, checked my knee position over the pedal. I currently have a flat bar, not to sure of the stem angle and size. I have tried the seat slightly raised, but find it uncomfortable in other areas, including the lower back. The bike is a GT Zaskar carbon, 2011. Love the bike so want to get the comfort issues sorted.

Hmmm - my only advice would then be - try a riser bar. The extra width is great for finer control too. The backsweep of the bars should make up for the extra width.

Your situation is odd (to me) - on all the 29ers I've owned I've felt too far back - hence the zero offset seat post and longer stem- gets you more forward on the bike...

Best of luck with the set up - carbon Zaskar is a great bike!
