Hi guys & girls.

I'm contemplating ordering a frame from Europe, but this will be my first time. Can somebody give me advice on how its done? If you pay with your credit card, how is the money converted from ZAR to EURO? What additional costs will there be? And VAT, how does that work?

Cheers

Your bank converts the charge immediately to Rands, at the going rate .

You may recieve an SMS from you bank about 10 seconds after clicking "Buy" if you normally get one when using the card, with the Rand value

You will pay Vat on the cost + 10% ( ie vat of about 15.4% instead of 14%)

You it comes by post you will pay R30.00 admin fee, and pay it all at the post office when collecting you frame.

If you get it by courier the courier may have a different admin fee.

Just make sure you buy from a "shop" that offers customer protection and insurance and assumes all responsibility until you get a good product in your hands and make sure they use a postal company or courier that can be tracked online. Even guys like CRC don't always have tracking options with their Royal Airmail option and if the parcel gets stuck somewhere they will sit and ask you to wait for it to arrive or contact your local posting authority. Can take a long time to get it sorted.

Thanks. That answers some questions.

The bank also charges a currency conversion charge (usually 2.75% or so).
