Hayes Stroker Trails - No Lever Pressure After Bleed

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

So I've decided to go all DIY on some brake maintenance. I ordered the bleed kit and a caliper rebuild kit from CRC and downloaded the video instructional from Youtube. Bleeding the brakes wasn't that much of a problem, but now there is no (ok, maybe 10%) pressure on my brake lever (I've only done the front). I've read somewhere that you can fill the reservoir from the master cylinder side, similar to the Avid's, but this doesn't work either.

Any suggestions?

I've bled Hayes Stroker Trails many , many times!!

Not particularly hard and quite easy if you have the bleed kit.

If they were kind of ok before and now have no lever pressure at the lever after a bleed ..... you have introduced huge amounts of air through a most understandable n00b bleed!!!

Dont worry it'll get rapidly easier and then you can bleed pretty much any and all mtb brakes

Screw your bleed kit/syringe into the rotor side

Watch the Sram Avid video's on Youtube about bleeding and watch how the guy removes the bubbles from the syringe and then rotor brake fluid.

Once you happy as many bubbles as can be removed then open the bleed screw on the lever and pump the nice bubble free fluid through the system to flush it of any gunky bubbly existing fluid , make sure you catch that in a container - checkers packets with no holes work fine and are easy to attach. Pump through a good amount - you only want to do this once and you dearly want all the fluid in the system as sparkly clean & bubble free as possible.

Close the lever bleed screw , try and squeeze a little bit more fluid in the rotor with the syringe then quickly close that bleed screw & carefully remove the syringe .

From my experience there's no need to also try remove bubbles from the lever like Avid will recommend becuase from my experience it appears to make very little differences and normally fuks everything up again and you back to the rotor taking bubbles out again!!!!

Only had mine like 2 weeks and i know they abit of a older heavier design then new xt's, but im actually loving them.Seem to modulate really well if you pull into the full reach really slowly or they like switches if you pull fast with force and only go through about a quarter of the reach then.Seem kinda like 1/2 formula ... 1/2 shimano feel....( if that makes sense).Havent had to bleed them yet,but seem similar to older shimano's

7/10 so far
